Xbox Perspectives for 2022
Xbox Game Studios is related to all the studios that are working exclusively for Microsoft. An impressive template with studios like 343 Industries (Halo Infinite), Playground Games (Forza Horizon 5), or Double Fine (Psychonauts 2).
But they are not the only ones, there are also legendary companies like Rare and recently created teams, like The Initiative. And since last year, so has the large Bethesda family (Arkane, Machinegames, Tango Gameworks…).
With this impressive roster of studios working for Xbox Series X|S, One, and PC, what are the first-party games in development?
Of course, many projects that Microsoft teams are working on are still kept in secret, but there are confirmed Xbox exclusive titles. Many of them, were announced during the Xbox Showcase in which Series X|S was presented and subsequent events.
Elite Controller for Xbox One
This controller with interchangeable and configurable buttons has been crowned one of the best, if not the best for Xbox One, both for features and battery life.
Some of these exclusive Xbox games already have a closed date on fire (as in the case of Starfield) while other developments will not be available until 2023 or 2024.
The plans of Matt Booty, director of Xbox Game Studios, are to launch a “first party” game every three months and offer it from launch day on Game Pass.

Starfield
Release date: November 11, 2022.
Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, PC and Xbox Game Pass (on launch day).
Starfield, Bethesda’s RPG (a new company IP), will arrive on Xbox Series X|S and PC on November 11, 2022. It will be an adventure set in space, in a galaxy known as The Settled Systems. This galactic system will be patrolled by different factions, such as the United Colonies, the Freestar Collective, the Constellation (the group that all players will start with), as well as the pirates of the Crimson Fleet. Everyone will have a particular goal in this “Skyrim in Space”.
Avowed
Release date: potentially in the near future.
Platforms: Xbox Series X and PC exclusively.
Obsidian Entertainment (who are also working on The Outer Worlds 2, Grounded and Fallout: New Vegas) has announced in July 2021 a new IP which will remind Skyrim. However, as the rumors suggest Avowed will be an open-world game, far larger than Skyrim.
Avowed is an action role-playing game, which takes place in the first person and will be set in the fantastic medieval world of Eora (world upon Pillars of Eternity). It is planned to be full of sword fights combined with magic and runes.
Perfect Dark
Release date: most likely in 2022.
Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, PC.
Joanna Dark, a badass protagonist of Perfect Dark, returns in the most ambitious installment in the series, originally developed by Rare in 2000. This time, the new studio The Initiative (formed by industry veterans) with the help of Crystal Dynamics (Tomb Raider) is behind an action and infiltration game.
It is claimed that the new Perfect Dark is a “eco sci-fi” first-person shooter which will uncover the world of near future that is struggling from various issues due to a climate change. While the original game told us a story of confrontation between two alien races that have chosen an Earth as a war zone, the upcoming Perfect Dark will depict a much more realistic story which may happen in our reality.
