Whilst many millions simply do not put in the effort to master a card game like Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh!, millions more actually do grind away, figuring out the best builds, and make their way up the ranked ladder. And then for a certain few Yu-Gi-Oh! masters, well, they are gods amongst men, and have recently been battling in the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship. It’s there where the Yu-Gi-Oh! eSports champions were crowned.
A Trifecta sees the Yu-Gi-Oh! eSports Champions crowned
Taking place on Sunday, 6th August in Tokyo, the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship returned for the first time in four years, due to the pandemic. Hundreds of budding players and teams turned up in Japan with their best builds, in a number of disciplines.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game
In the physical trading card game (TCG) format of the popular deck-building series, it was North America’s Paulie Aronson that took the victory from the grasp of Peru’s Juan Mateo Augusto Renteria Pastor. With his powerful Dragon Link Deck by his side, Aronson won out in a tight 2-0 match.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links
Duel Links is the mobile arm of Yu-Gi-Oh!, with it also available on PC. Thumbs tapping away like no tomorrow, it was Takagi who stormed to the win with a 3-0 score against Yukoo.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel
And when it comes to the console gaming side of things, look no further than Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel. Whilst we at TheXboxHub aren’t exactly world champions at Yu-Gi-Oh!, we enjoyed this intricate free-to-play battler that released in January 2022. Available on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC, Master Duel certainly looks the part, with incredible animations as you slam down a card into the battlefield. With offensive and defensive plays to master, trap cards, and a ridiculous amount of others to add to your deck, Yu-Gi-Oh! is a rewarding game to put the hours into.
In Tokyo, the Master Duel World Championship played out in a team-based, 3v3 format. In a close 5-3 affair, it was the team known as snipehunters (Josh, QuantalThink and Emre) that took the W from Team 7.
‘Til Next Year!
And so that concludes the return of the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2023. Three worthy winners in their respective fields. Perhaps we have a future world champion within our ranks? If you would like to train for such a title, then why not try out Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel – it’s free, after all!
The game is available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Switch and PC. You can download it for Xbox via the Xbox Store.
