Xbox Game Pass evolves with the introduction of new Core level

Game Pass Core
A cheaper subscription service in Game Pass Core is coming!

If you’re an Xbox gamer, we’d say you have to have a Xbox Game Pass subscription. From a slow start, it’s fast evolved into an absolute juggernaut of a subscription service, giving Xbox players the globe over the chance to dip into – and out of – an ever-revolving door of great games. But Game Pass is changing, looking to evolve further with the introduction of a new Core level.

Say goodbye to Games With Gold

Just as the Game Pass subscription price looks to rise, Microsoft provide their players with all-new options. Ripping apart and sunsetting the old, rather tired, Games With Gold scheme (something that we think they should have ditched a good three years ago), Microsoft are adding in Xbox Game Pass Core.

It arrives on September 14th 2023 to provide the next step in total Game Pass world domination. And whereas the standard Game Pass subscription levels – Console, PC, Ultimate – ensure players have access to hundreds of games, Core looks to deliver a cheaper option.

Running at $9.99 per month or $59.99 per year, Game Pass Core will provide players with online console multiplayer abilities, a catalogue of over 25 high quality games, and some deals and discounts for those looking for it.

And hello to Game Pass Core

It’s a far cry away from the big hitting Game Pass Ultimate, but if your wallet cannot stretch to the top tier, or you find yourself not needing access to everything that is on offer, Game Pass Core could well be worth a look. And it does allow Microsoft to say goodbye to Games With Gold with no fuss nor bother.

So, what will be available on that September 14th launch of Game Pass Core? Well, as you would expect, it’s Xbox Game Studios and Bethesda titles that are front and centre, with content partners dipping in for good measure. The list is full of great games, and whilst we’re not initially convinced, it’ll be interesting to see how Core itself changes over the course of the coming months and years.

As a side note, Microsoft are pledging to add new titles to Core two or three times a year. When you consider current Game Pass Ultimate drops are multiple times a month, the jury is out.

Twenty-Five+ games to play

But that Xbox Game Pass Core games list. Sign up for Game Pass Core from September 14th and you’ll find access to all of the following…

  • Among Us
  • Descenders
  • Dishonored 2
  • Doom Eternal
  • Fable Anniversary
  • Fallout 4
  • Fallout 76
  • Forza Horizon 4
  • Gears 5
  • Grounded
  • Halo 5: Guardians
  • Halo Wars 2
  • Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice
  • Human Fall Flat
  • Inside
  • Ori & The Will of the Wisps
  • Psychonauts 2
  • State of Decay 2
  • The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited

And yes, those games you’ve collated through Games With Gold in the past? Yeah, if you stay subscribed to Core or Ultimate, you’ll find those sticking around.
