2026's Best Games

cult of the lamb keyart

As well as learning the word ‘ovine’, today we have refreshed our knowledge that game devs can be some of the most creative out there: this one is all about a possessed lamb who must form a band of loyal followers into the most devout cult in the world!

Cult of the Lamb, releasing today on Xbox, PlayStation, PC and Switch, sees our sheepy friend saved from utter annihilation by a mysterious stranger, and in return must oversee the birth of a cult in his name. Your job is to assume control of this lamb, and spread the good word of a cult across the lands – four regions, to be specific – doing rid of rival cults in order to become the true following.

What this translates to in a gameplay sense, is a loop of resource collecting – in order to build structures in your culty village – along with travelling to the underworld and disposing of a raft of enemies, using a wealth of pointy weapons. First impressions point towards a combat style akin to the excellent Hades, with hefty swings of an axe, as well as magical powers, making for truly satisfying combat.

There’s obviously the traditional sermons and appeasements to the gods that come with any cult worth its salt, but you will just have to play for yourself to see how these weave their way into the wider story. What we do find incredibly amusing is that, despite performing dark rituals and what seems to be literal sacrifices to omnipotent deities, the animals that do your bidding all do so with a gleeful smile on their face. Who says you can’t be in a cult and have fun?

Key features include:

  • BUILD YOUR FLOCK – Collect and use resources to build new structures, perform dark rituals to appease the gods, and give sermons to reinforce the faith of your flock.
  • DESTROY THE NON-BELIEVERS – Explore a sprawling, randomly generated world, fight off hordes of enemies and defeat rival cult leaders in order to absorb their power and assert your cult’s dominance.
  • SPREAD YOUR WORD – Train your flock and embark on a quest to explore and discover the secrets of four mysterious regions. Cleanse the non-believers, spread enlightenment, and perform mystical rituals on the journey to become the mighty lamb god.

Cult of the Lamb is now available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. You can pick up a copy for £20.99 from the Xbox Store, or alternatively for PS5, PS4, PC and Switch.

Game Description:

Cult of the Lamb casts players in the role of a possessed lamb saved from annihilation by an ominous stranger and must repay their debt by building a loyal following in his name. Start your own cult in a land of false prophets, venturing out into diverse and mysterious regions to build a loyal community of woodland worshippers and spread your Word to become the one true cult.

I'm an avid gamer who will play pretty much anything... but stick an open world or adventure game in front of me and I'm more than happy.
