Following on from their first collaboration in the form of Maldita Castilla EX, Abylight Studios and Locomalito have brought Super Hydorah to the Xbox One as a tribute to those SHMUP classics of yesteryear like Gradius and R-Type. It’s an intense, non-linear game that’s easy to pick up but difficult to master, with replayability coming from the multiple endings on offer.
Basically, an evil force – the dreadful Meroptians – is embarking upon a war of conquest and it’s down to the most skilled pilot of the galaxy to battle the hordes planet by planet – that’s you. A selection of power-ups and weapons are available, and you can even bring a friend along in local co-op to assist with the task at hand, as you wade through the 21 levels, the different dangers that await you and the many bosses along the way.
The chance to defeat the Meroptians in Super Hydorah comes at a price of £9.59 over on the Xbox Games Store.
