It may have taken a little longer to arrive than the BadLand Publishing and Devilish Games teams would have liked, but it’s now time for players on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC to jump into the rather peculiar Tim Burton inspired world of Onirike. If you’re on PS4 though, your wait will continue.

Available to purchase and download right now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC, Onirike comes to market as an original 3D adventure, one that just so happens to come to market with a slightly quirky visual style. A puzzle platformer at heart, and a deep open world ready for exploration, Onirike moves forward in a non-linear style, pushed by the narrative and unique aesthetics as one.

It runs at a price of £12.49 and should you decide Onirike is worthy of your cash you’ll find yourself dropping into the life of Prieto, a charming little character who wakes up every morning in the same place – again and again and again. You see, as the sun rises in Onirike, Prieto’s memories are erased leaving him to try to get a handle on what is happening.

It transpires that gypsophila is the key to ending this nightmare and by collecting enough of the stuff a Hansel and Gretal styled breadcrumb system begins to come into play, helping navigation of this orb of nightmares. But what happens when there is no gypsophila present? Well, it’ll be up to you to plant seeds, hoping and praying that they grow into flowers. Just make sure you dodge your way past the devourers of souls as you do so.

Key features of Onirike include:

  • Explore Onirike’s intricate open world.
  • Discover its captivating non-linear story.
  • Be amazed by its peculiar audio-visual style.
  • Help Prieto gain new abilities.
  • Strategically grow gypsophila flowers.
  • Avoid the devourers of souls by becoming invisible.

If you’re tempted by the premise or the visuals and fancy getting in on the Onirike action, you’ll find a copy of the game available for download from the digital stores of your choosing – the Xbox Store for Xbox One and Xbox Series players. It’s available on Nintendo Switch and PC too whilst a PS4 launch should arrive soon.

Game Description:

Dreams are fed by our own desires. They dwell within us since we are born and this is what we call them until they become real. But… have you ever wondered what happens to dreams that never come true? Onirike is an original 3D adventure, puzzle and platformer video game which takes place in an intricate open world, designed with a non-linear narrative and presented with a peculiar audio-visual aesthetic. Throughout the game, the player will take the role of Prieto, a strange being unaware of his own nature, but who has the rare ability to become invisible. Exploration, stealth and cultivating gypsophila flowers will be key to unveiling the story of Prieto and the orb in which he lives.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
