Now, here is a game that isn’t afraid to change the rules. Namely those of post-apocalyptic visions and roguelike. See how and what it has done as Collapsed launches today on Xbox after successful launches elsewhere.
Firstly, everyone assumes a post-apocalypse world is barren and full of “not very much”. Wrong. In Collapsed, the world may have ended in one guise, but it is still a bountiful world full of useful items. These can be used to unlock new traits and along with experience points, invest into a skill tree.
Secondly, Collapsed is a roguelike where you don’t lose your items upon death. Rejoice! This is very much sounding like the roguelike for the anti-roguelike crowd.
In Collapsed, take control of one of four hunters with their own unique abilities and combat styles. Then, travel through procedurally generated worlds to track down your prey. Along the way there will be huge bosses with health bars far bigger than yours. Not that this is a health bar measuring contest, but you get the idea.
You will die a lot in Collapsed. But at least you won’t spend time afterwards gathering up your dropped loot. Given you more time to gather up the loot of your fallen enemies. Win, win situation.
Collapsed is available to download now from the Xbox Store priced at £12.49. We will have a review of our thoughts coming soon. For now, let us know in the comments below whether this spin of roguelikes is enough for non-roguelike players to give it a try.
