Atari announce Quantum: Recharged

Quantum recharged Key Art

We’re big fans of what Atari have done with their Recharged series of games, breathing new life into old classics. The next game to be treated to such joys is one that first arrived some 40 years ago. Yep, Atari have announced Quantum: Recharged.

The Recharged series continues to grow

Already with the likes of Breakout, Centipede, Asteroids, Missile Command and more in place, the Recharged series of games has been one of sheer brilliance. It’s allowed Atari to drop modern ideas into some old classics, all to great effect.

Next up will be that of Quantum: Recharged. This sees Atari and the developers at Sneakybox come together to create a symphony of colour. This should be a game packed with colour and sound. It will arrive on PC and console later in 2023, some 40 years after the original Quantum hit the arcades.

Promising to deliver a galactic journey that is fraught with danger, Quantum: Recharged will be found brimming with cosmic wonder. And you’ll get to see that all play out as Atari drop the first gameplay trailer and demo during the upcoming Brazilian Independent Games Festival in Sao Paulo. This will be taking place between June 28th and July 2nd 2023 – we will add the trailer link for you as it drops.

What is Quantum: Recharged?

Quantum: Recharged will invite you to navigate waves of enemies with only a nimble ship and a trove of unique power-ups to hand. You’ll be able to do this on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. Expect it to also be on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, PC and Atari VCS later in 2023.

Your goal will be to remove these enemies from existence, circling and trapping foes with your ship. This will in turn create dead zones, destroying anything within. Yep, Quantum: Recharged is a game in which dodging and circling is key, bereft of on-board guns, lasers or missiles.

And as this is a Recharged title, you should expect some decent sounds to go along with it. Quantum: Recharged will be powered by the award-winning composer Megan McDuffie, featuring soaring melodies and infectious beats.

So, key features?

  • What’s Old is New: Use modernized movesets and powerups to avoid deadly laser attacks from Quarks and stalking Neutrons as you streak across the high-flying battlefield.
  • Mode Madness: Two modes of gameplay — Challenge Mode and Arcade Mode — encourage you to either duke it out across 25 unique levels or just survive as long as you can against progressively dangerous waves of enemies.
  • Power-Ups: Even the odds with randomly spawning perks like unlimited dodges, enemy freezing abilities, and extra life nodes. One powerup might turn the tide of battle, but multiple will pack a serious punch!
  • Co-Op and Leaderboards: Cover more ground with a friend across all modes of play to strategically clear out enemies in tandem and compete in global leaderboards in both Arcade and Challenge modes.

We’ll keep you looped. In the meantime, let us know if you remember Quantum from first time around.
