15in1 Solitaire Review

15in1 Solitaire bundles in some confusing, poorly tutorialised and - on occasion - broken variants of Solitaire, which is no use to anyone.

Roofcats Band – Suika Style Review

Roofcats Band - Suika Style is a shabby, unruly little tomcat, and won’t do quite what you want it to.

The Fall of Elena Temple Review

The Fall of Elena Temple is worth every drop of your blood, sweat and tears.

Argonauts Agency 6: Missing Daughter Review

Argonauts Agency 6: Missing Daughter - an impossible challenge for any level designer.

Townscaper Review

What you get from Townscaper depends on what you’re willing to put into it. It’s a city-creation tool with a few surprises up it’s sleeve, but nothing beyond that. It’s gorgeous, simple and adapts to anything you can throw at it. If you find creative games aimless, though, this is perhaps the worst of them.

A YEAR OF SPRINGS Review

If you’ve ever enjoyed an otome visual novel, we couldn’t recommend A YEAR OF SPRINGS more. On the surface, this is a gentle, heartwarming tale of three friends moving in different directions. Below that surface, it has a mission: to expose what it is to be a transgender person in the conform-culture of modern day Japan.

Whiskey Mafia: Leo’s Family Review

Whiskey Mafia: Leo’s Family is a Mafia adventure that is over within forty-five minutes, and you will have 1000G handed to you in a brown paper bag. That might be an offer you can’t refuse, but we’d argue that you should.

Total Arcade Racing Review

With more control over the little tin car, Total Arcade Racing might have achieved its purpose: to be a party game of choice for up to eight players. But it’s an unwieldy, slippery beast. You can train yourself to enjoy it, anticipating the turns and conserving your boost, but when you want a game that eight rivals can pick up and enjoy in seconds, it doesn’t fit the bill.

Crazy Athletics – Summer Sports and Games Review

‘Crazy’ Athletics, this isn’t. Lazy Athletics is far closer to the truth.

Fights in Tight Spaces Review

If you’ve ever had fantasies of being John Wick, but can’t be bothered to step out of the armchair, then we would fully encourage you to have some Fights in Tight Spaces.

What is The Matrix Awakens?

The Matrix Awakens - full title, ‘The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience’ - sits somewhere in the Venn diagram of free, playable demo, advert and technical showcase. That might sound off-putting or baffling, but you shouldn’t be deterred: this is a milestone piece of software that you should immediately boot up if you have next gen hardware, specifically a PC, Xbox Series X|S or a PlayStation 5.

Xbox Game Pass welcomes One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4

It’s not the biggest title to have debuted on Xbox Game Pass this week, but today marks the arrival of One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 to the service. If you’ve been considering getting on board, now may be the time. We’re impressed that you can fit it around Halo Infinite.

SHINRAI: Broken Beyond Despair Review

When the blood flows and a detective is needed, SHINRAI: Broken Beyond Despair becomes far more accomplished. If you have the stomach for it, there is some great stuff waiting for you at the end of this visual novel. You just have to wade through some disgusting innards to get there.

Alexio Review

There’s nothing wrong with a deeply difficult platformer. But they have to be fair, and the controls have to be well-oiled. Alexio isn’t even close to nailing either, and the result is about as unsatisfying as a precision platformer can get. Don’t be tempted by the cute duck on the marketing: this one is less fair and more fowl.

White Shadows emerge on Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PC

If you like your platformers dark, immersive and with a large amount of social commentary, then look no further than White Shadows! Developed by debutant studio Monokel, this will be the jam of anyone who enjoyed Limbo, Little Nightmares and Inside, as well as dystopian nightmares from people like George Orwell or Aldous Huxley.

Fast & Furious: Spy Racers Rise of SH1FT3R Review

Coming from the same publisher as Blaze and The Monster Machines: Axle City Racers, which did such a poor, hollow job of bringing karting to younger players, it’s a joy to play something so substantial and well crafted in Fast & Furious: Spy Racers Rise of SH1FT3R.

Ever Forward brings Portal-like puzzling to Xbox, PlayStation and Switch

Could Ever Forward be the first true ‘lockdown’ game? Clearly it was made before lockdown hit, but the tale of a young girl, Maya, forced to stay inside while her mother goes out to tackle a bigger pandemic is hugely (and accidentally) resonant with our own personal lock-ins.

White Shadows Review

If you were ever put through the wringer by Inside or Limbo, and fancy climbing through again, then White Shadows will duly oblige. It’s a magnificent lightshow.

Exclusive Interview: Monokel sheds some light on their debut game, White Shadows

You don’t often find a debut game that looks as assured as White Shadows. From first-time developer Monokel, it’s a narrative-led adventure game in the vein of Inside, and not many people would dare to wrestle such a critically acclaimed title with their first attempt. We took the opportunity to chat with Daniel, the Creative Director of Monokel, to talk about the Herculean task of making a first game, and what it’s like to unleash it on an audience.
