The bees will love you in APICO

Bees. They may be a right pain when they stick their stinger in you, and you’ll be cursing the day they came into this world. However, we all know deep down that they are essential for the planet, and produce the sweetest substance for us to spread on our morning toast. APICO on Xbox aims to ensure we remember this.

Won’t Someone think of the Bees?

Releasing today on Xbox platforms, following launches on PlayStation, Switch and PC (with Positive and Very Positive reviews dominating the Steam page!), APICO is a Stardew Valley-esque life sim that has a particular focus on our lovable yellow and black friends.

You have ditched your boring city life, and replaced it with a beekeeping adventure on Port APICO, linking up with your family and setting out on a mission to restore the port to its buzzing self.

The top-down pixelated environments of APICO are all lush and green, full to the brim with grasses, plants and trees that will help you with your beekeeping endeavours. APICO is rich with biological teaching, fun minigames to get involved with, and the opportunity to breed new species of bees using crosses if something that we’ve never thought of doing, but give anything a go once, right?

Oh, and up to four players are able to join your world in online co-op. Here you can maximise productivity, and see the port flourish at top speeds.

Key Features of APICO

  • Live out your wildest beekeeping fantasies – sting free!
  • Play together with up to four in online co-op, with cross-play available on all platforms!
  • Unique crafting and beekeeping minigames that drive gameplay progression
  • Cross-breed different bees to discover over 30 new species
  • Make and sell honey, Apicola, and other beekeeping products
  • Repopulate lost species and release them back into the wild

  • Uncover the forgotten secrets of the APICO Islands

An All-New Update

Update 2.0 of APICO, titled ‘I Can’t Beeleive It’s Not Butter(flies)!’ comes with the Xbox launch of the game. 2.0 brings with it new bee species and added NPCs to interact with. Further, there’s a touch of magic with incense to produce, and of course beautiful butterflies to gawk at.

New Additions in Update 2.0:

  • New NPCs: New friends from the mainland, Cody and Sto, have come to the APICO Islands to further their research.
  • Butterflies: Discover, collect and breed a variety of brand-new pollinators.
  • Solitary Bees: These new pollinators prefer to do things on their own – build new solitary bee hotels and help them along!
  • New Flowers: Now, there are more ways to keep the pollinator population happy – each new flower has its own new effect on the environment.
  • Incense: Through the magic of alchemy, make your own incense and candles!
  • Bee-Sides: New tracks have been added to the chill soundtrack
  • And More: New books, decorations, and a host of quality-of-life improvements have been added.

I'm an avid gamer who will play pretty much anything... but stick an open world or adventure game in front of me and I'm more than happy.
