Become the God of Rock on PC and console

god of rock screen

It’s been a while since we thought of ourselves as the god of rock, mostly as the Guitar Hero and Rock Band franchises slowly dwindled and died. But in recent times, those rock addictions have come back to the fore – Infinite Guitars, Metal: Hellsinger and The Artful Escape have helped ease the pain slightly. Now comes the true test – as God of Rock lands on PC and console.

It’s in the name, but if we’re not gods of rock by the time we’re finished playing God of Rock, then we would probably be best leaving our ambitions forevermore. But there’s a chance this one could ignite the fire found within, as we battle to the beat in hope of discovering musical supremacy.

Available to purchase and download today on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC, God of Rock is a rhythm-based fighter from the Modus Games team. It’s priced at £24.99 from the Xbox Store – expect to pay similar elsewhere – and has you playing the role of a musician revitalised by the gods. From there, let the battle commence.

God of Rock feels fairly unique – our upcoming full review will let you know just how so – as it combines the age-old rhythm-based moments with even older fighting game mechanics. Think Guitar Hero crossed with Tekken and you’ll be a million miles away, but it’s the best we can muster up at this time.

Multiple fighters await the battle in God of Rock, each with their own designs, mechanics and attack systems. Pulling off blows should be a cinch, as we hit buttons to match notes on-screen, slowly pounding away until the Super Attack comes in. With complexity building as the action and music ramp, this could well be a super intense fighter, powered by super intense tunes.

Various game modes hold this all together, with a Story Mode, Training Mode, online and local Multiplayer modes and a Track Editor all available. From there, forty original songs build out the key features list…

  • • Battle to the Beat – Engage in over-the-top musical battles in this competitive rhythm-based fighter.
  • • Limitless Skill Ceiling – Tracks will continue to scale in difficulty until only one fighter remains.
  • • Over 40 Original Songs – Each with their own unique and challenging tracks to master.
  • • The Universe is Your Stage – Control 12 wildly different characters each with their own playstyle across 8 dynamic stages set across the universe.

If you’re looking to scratch a musical itch or just want to pound your opponents into submission, God of Rock should cover both bases. You can grab it today from the Xbox Store for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S (fully optimised for new-gen and coming with Smart Deliver in tow), as well as on PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Game Description:

The mysterious God of Rock has revived the souls of the universe’s greatest musicians to clash for his entertainment. Revitalized with new bodies and new powers, each musician will become a contestant in his game, battling it out with each other for musical supremacy on a global stage. God of Rock blends rhythm-based gameplay with fighting game mechanics in tense 1v1 matches. Choose from a dozen unique fighters, each with their own design, mechanics, and harmonic attacks. Soften up your opponent by executing normal moves and building meter by hitting notes to the beat of the song, then spend your meter to unleash EX and special moves do damage and add complexity to their tracks. Finally, finish them off with a devastating Super attack! As the battle progresses, the music track will continue to grow in complexity and difficulty until only one fighter is left standing!

I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
