Behind the scenes look at the creation of Dolmen’s world Revion Prime

Latest Reviews

The SoulsBorne-inspired horror action-RPG Dolmen launched its Kickstarter campaign last week to a great response at PAX East 2018 and now the developer behind it have released a ‘making of’ video, which highlights the creation of the alien world that’s both terrifying and beautiful – Revion Prime.

Massive Work Studios – a team consisting of talented developers who have worked on the likes of Injustice 2 and World of Warcraft – put a huge amount of work into trying to create a truly original, alien planet for Dolmen. It had to be captivating and intimidating for players, whilst also being too irresistibly gorgeous not to explore, despite the endless lethal threats within the dangerous environment. After just a few initial sketches and a good idea of the type of living world where monsters lurk, Revion Prime was born.

In the concept stage, the ‘Dolmenverse’ was divided into sectors that would each be designed as a playable area within the world Revion Prime. The lovingly dubbed ‘The Dump’ was the first sector created and it was once a beautiful, thriving mine, filled with unimagineable treasures. The great wars took its toll on ‘The Dump’ though, as it became a refuge for numerous lifeforms for a short while, before the largest recorded massacre in galactic history occurred. Piece by piece, the team at Massive Work Studios put the planet together as more new ideas continued to spawn for Revion Prime.

If you’re interested in the countless hours of work being put into Dolmen, which is expected to release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, then keep an eye out for even more fascinating behind the scenes updates during the rest of their Kickstarter campaign. Been gaming casually since the SNES as a youngster but found my true passion for games on the Playstation 1 (the forbidden word ooo). My addiction grew to its pinnacle with the purchase of an Xbox 360 & Xbox Live Service. A recovering GS hunter that will still play literally any game.
