Age of Solitaire: Build Civilization

Age of Solitaire: Build Civilization on Xbox combines the classic card game with a civilisation-building aspect for a challenging yet rewarding game.

Readers of a certain age may fondly recall playing hours of solitaire on the PC. That was one of only a few games available on Windows 95, alongside the other classic game Minesweeper.

Since then, solitaire has grown up and it can be found in a whole host of iterations on our consoles. From games that, at least in visuals, haven’t moved much away from the OG Windows solitaire like Solitaire 3D, to a whole range of wild and wonderful fusions of the game like Solitaire TriPeaks Flowers.

The latest solitaire game to hit the Xbox

Age of Solitaire falls firmly into the latter group, as it fuses Solitaire with a civilisation-building game.

You may know that there are literally hundreds of different versions of solitaire (see the afor-mentioned Solitaire 3D), but the one that is used in Age of Solitaire, and the one you are probably most familiar with, is Klondike.

The cards are arranged into seven piles. From there, the idea of the game is to move the cards around in order to reveal hidden cards and ultimately arrange them in four piles corresponding to each suit.

Completing a game of solitaire in real life is near impossible but digitally-generated versions tend to have a higher success rate, presumably to keep us playing.

From stone age to the modern era

Klondike Solitaire is a game that has been around since at least the 19th century, but in Age of Solitaire you’ll be going all the way back to the Stone Age with the first civilisation to build and go forward in time from there. Completing correct moves will earn you XP, which can be put towards building different parts of your civilization.

In the Stone Age you’ll get to build features like a version of stonehenge and a dinosaur grave. In a mediaeval landscape you’ll build a church and a modern beach-side resort is full of hotels.

Special features include being able to undo, so you can correct mistakes, a hint system to help you pick your next move and a magic item for help when you are stuck.

Those features in summary
