CATAN – Console Edition gets its first DLC pack

If you have read our review of CATAN – Console Edition and how it plays on Xbox, then you will know that we lamented the omission of any real substance aside from the vanilla game. We wanted expansions included for the money, and we expected them to follow if CATAN took off. Seems Dovetail Games had different plans though, as not even a week post-launch, the very first expansion for CATAN – Console Edition is here – it’s time to get involved in the Championship Maps. 

Available to purchase, download and add into your CATAN – Console Edition base game right now is the CATAN – Championship Maps DLC. Priced at £4.99, this does pretty much as you would expect, adding to the base game of CATAN on Xbox and PlayStation, with the introduction of some Championship Maps – something that we called for upon first release. 

It gives us the opportunity to take our CATAN playing to the next level, playing like a World Champion, involving ourselves in no less than five new boards, ripped straight from previous CATAN World Championships. 

These maps and boards can then be used across the base game of CATAN – Console Edition, playable against the AI should you so wish, or as you beat down your family locally, or take it to the world in the online play. 

We’d have much preferred the Championship Maps DLC to have accompanied the full release of CATAN – Console Edition just a few short days ago, and we’re not really sure why Dovetail have seen the need to hold back a little, but it is what it is and marketing strategies will dictate. 

If you have the base game, we suspect you’ll be wanting to get back to a bit of CATAN playing with the new Championship Maps as a matter of urgency, if only as it lifts CATAN up to new levels. We’d also suspect that you – like us – will be expecting more maps to drop in the very near future. 

For now, pop over to the Xbox Store and pick up the new CATAN – Championship Maps DLC for Xbox, adding it into the base game that you already own. Expect to see this on PlayStation too. It’s included should you have purchased the Deluxe Edition of the game.
