Hold onto your jorts, as Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is wumping onto Microsoft Xbox One, Switch and PS4 today!
Having been banished to the nether regions of time at the end of Crash 3, Neo Cortex has applied the time well and concocted a new plan: reunite the four quantum masks and destabilise the entire multiverse! Alongside N.Tropy, he’s hopping backwards and forwards through wormholes, causing the kind of hijinx that a pair of heroic marsupials can’t just ignore.
You’ll be playing as Crash and Coco, but it doesn’t look like it stops there – if you’ve been playing the demo or watched the trailers, you’ll also be giving Neo Cortex himself a spin too. If you’re fresh off the back of Crash’s Xbox One debut in the N.Sane Trilogy, then you’ll be pleased to know that the core joys of Crash remain intact. It’s frantic platform-hopping with beasties, boulders and bosses making life several shades of difficult.
There are differences this time, and the first is evident from the trailers and demo. Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time looks drop-dead gorgeous, and we’re looking forward to how gnarly it looks when we pop it into the Xbox Series X, too. There are some other neat twists too, not necessarily reserved to the time-travelling. There are suits to find and wear, which look like they give you gravity-defying powers, and the levels seem to push the envelope on where Crash has been before, from jungle to ice to city to underwater locations.
Eyes are also on the battle behind Crash and Ratchet and Clank, with both platforming favourites opting for a ‘battle through space and time’ approach. No doubt we’ll see who wins this battle in ‘time’.
This one’s looking vibrant at the very least, and we’re eager to see if it lives up to the promise. Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is out now on Xbox One for £59.99, and that gets you some ‘totally tubular’ skins for Crash and Coco. It also launches on PS4 and Switch today too.
