When a game garners comparisons to, and is clearly inspired by, the likes of Crash Bandicoot, Ratchet & Clank, and even RiME, there’s a good chance it’s got something going for it. That appears to be to the case with Effie, the latest 3D action-adventure to land on the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.
Effie is really hoping to capture the old school vibe for its unique fantasy adventure, which combines fighting with platforming elements and puzzle solving. While exploring this 3D realm, you’ll have to free the inhabitants from dark and powerful evil forces. A young chap named Galand is the man for the job, especially after he’s cursed with becoming old prematurely. It’s the work of a witch and so he embarks upon a quest to regain the lost youth by ridding the Oblena region of the black magic in control.
Fortunately, Galand has the Runestone in his possession; a magic shield that pulls double duty as a weapon and a tool. With the Runestone he’ll be able to defend the attacks of sinister creatures, fight back, and surf across the land – a feat that looks rather cool to be fair. Increasing the Runestone’s power for combat, mastering the platforming challenges ahead, and solving tricky puzzles, will surely see this old geezer recapturing his youth. And save the city, of course, because that’s obviously just as important.
