The Darwin Project announced for Xbox One

-

It’s just been announced during Microsoft’s E3 2017 show and will be playable at the show itself. Are you looking for a new battle royale title to get stuck into? The Darwin Project is for you.

Coming from Scavengers Studio, The Darwin Project promises to re-invent the battle royale genre. Due for release on Xbox One and Win10 in Spring 2018, The Darwin Project offers a competitive multiplayer third-person experience with an emphasis on survival. You’ll need to be prepared to withstand extreme environmental conditions, track opponents, craft tools, set traps, and negotiate temporary alliances to be the last one standing at sunrise.

Taking place in a post-apocalyptic landscape set within the Northern Canadian Rockies, just as civilization is preparing for an impending ice age, a twisted new project emerges – half science experiment and half live-entertainment. That project is The Darwin Project and it challenges participants to survive the cold and fight to the death in a treacherous, snow-covered arena.

One of the most exciting aspects is that of the Show Director mode, allowing a player to oversee the match and use special commands to create thrilling moment-to-moment action through uniquely asymmetrical gameplay.

As the show director in The Darwin Project, a player can survey the entire arena aboard an invincible drone and examine the strategies all seven contestants are using to hunt each other down. The director dashboard contains a suite of tools, unlocked through a progression system, with the potential to influence the outcome of the match. The show director can choose to give the underdog an unforeseen edge or turn the tables on a particularly bloodthirsty contestant by restricting zones, calling in airstrikes, or even triggering a manhunt―which reveals a player’s position for a few seconds.

That is just one of many features Scavengers Studio plans to implement in order to ensure The Darwin Project twists the genre on its head. There will be more though and we’ll be sure to bring you details as and when they are announced.

For now, the E3 2017 trailer will ensure you get in the right frame of mind.
