Dust & Neon’s keyart looks a bit smart

Roguelikes and roguelites are becoming a bit of a buzzword within the industry. Mostly spurred on by the successes of Hades, Spelunky and many more. David Marquardt Studios and Rogue Games are throwing their hat into the roguelike/lite ring with Dust & Neon on Xbox and PlayStation. This is a cyberpunk western take on the genre. With tons of weapons at your disposal, it’s time to pull on your spurs and get to shootin’!

A Mysterious Gunslinger

Our central protagonist in Dust & Neon – now available on Xbox and PlayStation – is a mysterious fellow indeed. What we do know, however, is that he is a master of the trigger. And it is he who is capable of saving this apocalyptic Wild West with just a revolver and a few bullets. This twin-stick roguelite shooter will have you unlocking tons of abilities for your hero. As well as taking down enemies and bosses with literally thousands of weapons.

That’s right: Dust & Neon has thousands of unlockable weapons, found littered across this dusty wasteland. As is the case with a roguelite, dying is not final, and between runs you’ll be able to take what you’ve learned from previous runs, and apply them going forward.

Dynamic Systems

Amongst the chaos and explosions, an eye must be kept on your ammo count. Each weapon in Dust & Neon must be manually reloaded. And that sees each tap of the reload button shoving another bullet in the chamber. What ensues is a beautiful dance of firing, dodging, reloading, firing, dodging, reloading.

You’ll make your way across four unique regions as this 10+ hour campaign plays out. And it’ll be in the sheer number of items and guns at your disposal that opens up avenues for replayability.

“We’re thrilled to release our acclaimed post-apocalyptic shooter on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, where the game really shines,” said Rogue CEO Matt Casamassina. “These versions feature a host of gameplay tweaks, brand new play modes, and also a blazing fast frame rate in 4K, leveling up an already great experience to a best-in-class one.”

I'm an avid gamer who will play pretty much anything... but stick an open world or adventure game in front of me and I'm more than happy.
