Ario is a very unique proposition. It comes to Xbox, PlayStation and PC via the Vata Games and Artax Games teams, mixing in a fantasy world, platforming, puzzles and tower defence. Will it work?

A merging of genres

Available right now on Xbox Series X|S is Ario. Non-playable on Xbox One, you’ll also find it kicking around on digital storefronts for PlayStation 5 and PC. This is a vibrant 2.5D action adventure that whisks us off to a Persian-inspired world, chucking in a ton of steampunk as it goes. If you’ve recently enjoyed Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, then you should be well at home here. 

Running a price of £10.49, Ario heads off on a little adventure, one in which he is looking to rescue his mother. The thing is, it isn’t long before he discovers that in order to pull off this rescue, he’ll need to defeat some dark forces. It’s here where challenges, hazards, demons and more come to the fore. 

The adventure of Ario will see you meeting new allies, all happy to help in your quest. But more important are the mechanics. See, Ario is armed with a crossbow, but before you help him leap through some 12 levels of action, you’ll need to get involved in the metroidvania and tower defense mechanics first.
