You know what we don’t have enough of? The ability to play as pasta. It’s fu-silli that we haven’t had the chance until now. But, finally, we can put penne to paper and say, proudly, that Freddy Spaghetti is here, and your chance to play the thinking-man’s flour product is now possible.
Freddy Spaghetti is out now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and PS5. It’ll be ladled out onto Switch on the 18th of December.
This one’s a bit silly, and we’re A-OK with it. Perhaps taking a slice out of I Am Bread’s loaf, with a few spreads of Octodad or Goat Simulator, this is a game about becoming conscious in a dangerous world and then finding a way to navigate through it. Like I Am Bread and Octodad, even taking a single step is a challenge, as you’re a singly floppy piece of spaghetti, and standing up on a single soggy foot is a challenge.
But, once you get to grips with the controls, you can do remarkable things like walk, run, slide, slap, smash or jump. The world is now your pasta fork. You will be crossing roads, navigating worktops and outrunning the cops.
Outrunning the cops? Yep, it seems that the world isn’t ready for sentient spaghetti, so you’ll have to take flight. Like a starchy version of Grand Theft Auto, you’ll be accumulating police attention until they send in SWAT teams and try to take you down with mortars. Embrace your inner Frogger as you try to safely navigate their blockades.
Honestly, just writing this is making us hungry. We’re impressed with the meatballs on Ratalaika Games and Playful Pasta, as this is an unusual feast and we’re eager to twist it round our fork for a review.
