It first dropped onto Xbox One a whole year again, but now, finally, Gryphon Knight Epic has made an appearance in Europe.

Available for £7.99, Gryphon Knight Epic puts you in charge of Sir Oliver, as he rides his trusty gryphon stead, Aquila, on a 2D medieval adventure. Mixing classic shoot em up ideas, plenty of exploration and the chance to head on into duel-like boss battles, Gryphon Knight Epic plays on the whole pixel art visuals, delivering a lovely retro feel.

Not all epic stories end happily ever after, but that of Sir Oliver will most definitely have you laughing your way through the hand crafted levels included. But a strong concept and a bit of a laugh never made a great game and you’ll have to be ready for a story that is quickly forgotten amid an execution that doesn’t quite match the idea.
