Hi there, I’m Richard Dobson. You may know me as the guy that managed to get to second in the world leaderboard singing Boogie 2Nite by Booty Luv on Lips. You may also know me as the guy that played one multiplayer game on Destiny and ended up with a -15 K/D ratio…
Anyways, I need to be real with you for a moment. I need your help.
A few years ago, I did a 25-hour charity gaming marathon for my 25th birthday. And with the way the world has been in 2020, I figured it was high-time I did another one. This time though, as I will be turning 31, I am going for a 31-hour marathon on the 19th-20th December.
Once again, I have chosen the wonderful charity Place2Be. Based in the UK, Place2Be focus on improving mental health in children. They visit schools to speak to children, parents and teachers providing care and support in an area of mental health that is often overlooked. Where previously it was assumed that mental health issues develop in adolescence, Place2Be look to target factors that appear at an early age by providing support and counselling. Mental health can affect anyone at any age, trust me.
And with 2020 being “a bad year”, not least the disruption to schools, it comes as no surprise that mental health in younger people has been in the spotlight. So, I wanted to do my part this year. But I need your help with that too.
I will be streaming the whole 31-hour gaming marathon over on my personal Twitch channel so please drop in and say hi! But I also have set-up a fundraising page over on JustGiving – www.justgiving.com/dobo1912knight – where there is a lot more information on the work Place2Be too. Please click the link, share if you can, and if you are able to, a donation would mean the absolute world to me. There is no pressure though, any words of encouragement will come in useful in helping me achieve my goal.
As for the games I will be playing, well, a little bit of everything really. Currently my list includes some Yakuza, Watch Dogs: Legion, DOOM, Immortals Fenyx Rising (whilst I work on my review) and also some PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR. I may even start Dark Souls if people wanted to have a laugh at me!
Firstly, thank you for reading this far; this already means a lot to me. Don’t forget to drop in on Twitch on the 19th or 20th December and say hi, and if you can, send a donation at www.justgiving.com/dobo1912knight.
Thank you, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Here’s hoping that 2021 is a more positive year.
