We’ve only just got the run ‘n’ gun bug again, thanks to the release of Contra: Operation Galuga. But now we’re doing it all over again – this time with Orion Haste.Â
Landing on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S via the Ratalaika Games and Viridino Studios & Forsteri Studios triology, Orion Haste is sold as a fast pace action affair that prioritises the most intense run ‘n’ gun gameplay. That should mean it’ll be very much suited for veterans of the genre, whilst tempting in newcomers alike.Â
A Contra clone?
If you’ve played any form of Contra over the years, then Orion Haste should appeal. Even more so when you take in the narrative kicking around in the background.
In Orion Haste you’ll find yourself transported to a distant future, one in which you take on the role of a human soldier stationed at the Beta-Orionis Military Base (BOMB). Situated within the gravitational pull of the blue supergiant star Rigel, in the constellation of Orion, the base serves as humanity’s stronghold in the area. The thing is, it’s now long before you realise that this place is under attack by the Ximpeti – an alien species looking to take down your primary oxygen facility.
What plays out from there is good old run ‘n’ gun stuff. All as you embark on a mission to eradicate the Ximpeti threat from both the Aethra station and their home planet of Xim. Only by neutralising this threat can the future of humanity in Orion be secured.
7 levels of battling await, each full of objectives, challenge and more. With a finale to wonder at, Orion Haste promises to create a pretty memorable gaming experience. Take in the range of weapons to hand as well as action-packed segments in which you can take in hoverbikes ot SHUMP elements, alongside a speed run mode, and this could well be a little gem.
