The publishing team at Blowfish Studios are on a bit of a roll at this moment in time, with a whole ton of games under their belt – notably Subdivsion Infinity DX and the recent Storm Boy. One of the most intriguing though is that of KungFu Kickball – and not just because of the name.
A team-based sports platform fighter (covering all the genres there eh!) comes about via the creative minds of the development team at WhaleFood Games, with Blowfish Studios taking publishing rights. And not only does it sound great, but today they have confirmed the games will be striking home on Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam for Windows PC and Mac in Q1 2020.
KungFu Kickball will see you given the chance to square off against friends, with a fantasy sport that infuses the action of soccer with martial arts. You’ll be left to unleash a whirlwind of kicks, punches, and magical abilities to take out the opposing team, hoofing the ball downfield, and scoring points by overpowering or outmanoeuvring rival defenders and sending the ball crashing into one of the gigantic bells at either end of the stadium.
It’s not quite FIFA or PES, but that ensures that KungFu Kickball will certainly come with some appeal as it allows us to make the use of minimalistic controls and take in an accessible yet competitive experience. It’ll be frantic stuff too and matches in KungFu Kickball promise to be fast-paced tug-of-war-style showdowns where switching up between offensive strikes and defensive stands are par for the course.
Coming complete with six stages and three player classes to choose between, every match has the chance to take on its own character, and when you then also consider the fact that it’ll feature local and online 1v1 and 2v2 multiplayer, KungFu Kickball certainly seems set to allow for rivalries to form. No matter whether you wish to challenge friends, foes, or strangers, becoming the KungFu Kickball master is the ultimate goal.
“KungFu Kickball is a new kind of sports game that injects the high-flying action of martial arts,” said Ben Lee, co-founder, Blowfish Studios. “As fans of both sport and kung fu action, we’re having a lot of fun with this project and look forward to sharing it with everyone early next year.”
Blowfish Studios will be proudly showcasing KungFu Kickball at PAX West 2019 in Seattle from Aug 30th through to Sept 2nd, and we’ll be sure to let you know how the game development progresses as we move towards that Q1 2020 release on Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC.
