Ah, Super Meat Boy. The mascot of XBLA nostalgia. The epitome of speedrunning. The reason for many a smashed controller. Welcome back to this meaty world, but in a way you’ve never seen before with Dr Fetus’ Mean Meat Machine on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC.
A Fiendish Puzzle Adventure!
Dr Fetus’ Mean Meat Machine is an entry into the Meativerse that’s unlike anything that’s preceded it. Unlike the original Super Meat Boy, and the sequel Super Meat Boy Forever, this is a match-4 puzzler.
However, do not fear, as this puzzle title has all the gore and saws that we have become accustomed to. From the nightmare fuel that Team Meat pumps out, co-developed by Headup, the immense challenge is still here, albeit in a vastly different format.
After his escapades in previous titles, the titular Dr Fetus has all the data he requires to craft the perfect Meat Boy clone. However, something is going awry in the cloning process, producing many defects amongst the good ones. The only solution is to send these clones through a tortuous set of match-4 chambers, until the wheat is sorted through the chaff. Along the way, expect thousands of clones to meat a gruesome end.
Across more than 100 stages, with a number of boss levels to persevere through, you’ll be tasked with sending coloured clones down the tunnel. The plan being to match colours together, at which point they disappear from your screen. The aim of the game is to get through as many clones as possible, before the stage gets clogged up – come on, we’ve all played Tetris before!
Layer on the Difficulty
Soon enough, Dr Fetus will be ramping up the challenge. Expect to find TNT that destroys many clones at once, as well as the classic grey sawblades that dominated our nightmares when we were addicted to Super Meat Boy way back when.
Don’t expect to finish Dr Fetus’ Mean Meat Machine in a jiffy – this is a tough one indeed!

Story:
Dr. Fetus’ Mean Meat Machine takes place right after the events of Super Meat Boy Forever. After meticulously analyzing Meat Boy all throughout Super Meat Boy Forever (did you notice the cameras in the levels???), the nefarious Dr. Fetus now has all the data he needs to create the perfect Meat Boy clone! There’s just one problem: The DNA sample he’s collected isn’t a perfect specimen, which in turn yields some…less than perfect clones…
But fear not, Dr. Fetus knows how to solve this problem. He creates a bunch of ruthless test chambers and starts sending all of the clones he’s created through them, in order to weed out the crap clones from the good ones. The specimens start out looking nothing like Meat Boy, but over time that grotesquely lovable face that Dr. Fetus hates so much, starts to emerge. Perfect clones are just on the horizon and after they’re done…who knows what happens next? Probably something to do joyously with torturing and killing lots of Meat Boys for the hell of it!
