Whilst there are plenty of new IPs making waves of console – think of Biomutant for one – there are just as many, and quite probably more, who prefer to run the retro route, working some old-school magic in hope that nostalgia will drag gamers in. That’s the case with Eight Dragons as it launches on Xbox, PlayStation and Switch.
Available to purchase and download right now, Eight Dragons makes a mark on the console scene thanks to the JanduSoft team, as they push a release to Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch.
It comes in with a price of £6.69 from the Xbox Store, and will allow any players happy to open the wallet and splash the cash the chance to embark on some proper old-school gaming vibes.
A side-scrolling beat ’em up, very much in the vein of those games which frequented the scene decades ago, Eight Dragons is quite obviously hoping to hop on the bandwagon that was revitalised with the release of Streets of Rage 4 back in 2020.
As the name suggests though, this should also be suitable for eight players, as they play through things in a cooperative manner locally. With eight dragons to choose from – each of which comes with their own unique story, route and character, making the most of the power of the fist, the feet, and whatever weapon comes to hand is all par for the course for this brawler.
The overall goal is to stop the crooked businessman KANE (yep, that dude needs caps!) from taking over the city, with each of the dragons working their own path towards him. With intertwining narratives though, the true destiny will only unlock as they come together for the ultimate fight, taking back the city from all evil.
Adjustable game speed and difficulty levels will ensure that Eight Dragons is as easy, or as hard, as you wish it to be. Throw in an Arcade mode too and well, there’s plenty to involve yourself in.
We think that the low asking price of Eight Dragons from the Xbox Store for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S makes this as one to sit in punt territory. If you agree, let us know in the comments. If you don’t, hold tight whilst we sort a review so we can discuss the matter.
