Operation Wolf is back and on Xbox!

Ready for a nostalgic reimagining? Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission is on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC. And it’s ditching off the VR as it arrives…

Every now and then we fire up our PlayStation 5, stick the PSVR 2 headset on our bonce, and scour the latest VR titles to hit the system. And over the last few weeks, our eyes have continually been drawn to Operation Wolf Returns VR. But no matter what happens, we can’t bite the bullet. Perhaps it is nostalgic hits that hold us back, or the hope of a non-VR version that is playable on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC that we are really after. A version like that which releases today in the form of Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission.

A cult classic returns

Available right now is a reimagining, reinterpretation if you will, of the classic rail shooter from years gone by. Many will remember Operation Wolf with fondness, so it’ll be interesting to see how this one stacks up.

Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S comes at a price of £24.99. You’ll find that it should be similarly set on PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC too.

However you dive in to this one, Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission has been put together by the French team at Virtuallyz Gaming, grabbed by Microids for publishing rights. Promising to remain faithful to the source product, this one comes with a new artistic style and direction. It’ll still thrust you right back to the 1980s should you get involved though, with non-stop action throughout.

Solo or cooperative?

Whether you play solo or through a cooperative stylee, Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission has you in the boots of a special agent, left to fight against a criminal organisation. Led by General Viper and in the process of developing a super powerful new weapon, it’s up to you to put a stop to things.

Six levels make up the campaign, but a Survival mode should well complement that. With a host of weapons and a full-on arsenal to hand, this certainly looks like it’ll be able to deliver the hit fans of the cult arcade game need.

  • Comeback of the 1987 cult arcade game!
  • New art style
  • Non-stop action
  • A 6-level campaign which can be played by one or two players
  • A survival mode (endless waves of enemies)
  • A full blown arsenal (smg, shotgun, grenade launcher…)

Buy it now!

Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission is on the Xbox Store for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, priced at £24.99. It’s also on PlayStation, Switch and PC.

Keep your eyes peeled for our full review of Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission on Xbox – coming soon.

Operation Wolf on Xbox Game Description

Alone or with another, relive this great Arcade classic through non-stop action! A reinterpretation of one of the founding games of the Rail Shooter genre, released as an arcade game in 1987, Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission adopts the same DNA as in the original game (sustained action in an atmosphere straight out of 1980s action films) but offers a new design. A few months ago, a new criminal organization made its appearance. In addition to trafficking arms and drugs, it has developed a new, superpowerful weapon. After discovering several of the bases of the organisation, led by the mysterious General Viper, two agents are dispatched to learn more about this weapon and free the hostages held in the surrounding camps.
