Promising dismemberment and gore, Within the Blade slashes onto Xbox, PlayStation and Switch

We don’t usually associate Ratalaika Games with gore – at least not too often – but with the release of Within the Blade on Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, that is exactly what we are getting.

Available to purchase and download right now, Within the Blade comes about via a combination of our friends at Ratalaika (they behind the likes of Super Destronaut DX-2 and Sun Wukong VS Robot) and Ametist Studio – the development team.

It runs at a price of £9.99, is Optimised for Xbox Series X|S and promises to deliver you to a world that is chock full of dismemberment, gore and the chance to hone your inner ninja skills.

Working with a combination of stealth, platforming and RPG elements, Within the Blade thrusts us into the year 1560 AD, just as Japan’s last Shogunate loses control of the empire. It’s this which throws the country into a bit of a civil war, leaving the Black Lotus clan the only ones capable of holding the world together and defeating the warlord.

Within the Blade promises to deliver some super fast, highly dynamic gameplay as you take on the role of the finest ninja of the land, before exploring the world around you, collecting weaponry and power in the process. You’ll need it too as there will be 25 stages and 10 bosses to take down once you are fit enough, each of which will require a different tactical take. Thankfully with more than 200 recipes present, enabling you to craft at will, what you get out of Within the Blade most certainly looks to be linked to what you put into it.

We’re pretty taken with everything that Within the Blade is able to offer up and when you consider the pixelated artstyle too, hopes are high for this little Ratalaika gem.

Features include:

  • * Fast and dynamic gameplay
  • * 10 powerful bosses with unique abilities
  • * Different types of enemies, each will require different battle tactics to defeat
  • * Crafting of objects, more than 200 recipes
  • * Dismemberment and gore
  • * Dynamic battles with vivid animations

You’ll find a download of the game available from the Xbox Store, the PlayStation Store or the Nintendo eShop. Should you wish to know more, you’re probably best off holding for our full review – it’ll be along soon.

Game Description:

Within the Blade is an epic game in stealth, platforming, and RPG genres, in which the player takes on the role of a Ninja. Explore the scenic world of feudal Japan, using your stealth to complete missions. Collect various materials to craft weapons: shurikens, poisons, elixirs, grenades, mines. As well as the main weapon the Ninjato and Kusarigama to build your power. In 1560 A.D – Japan’s last Shogunate has lost full control over the realm, causing a plunge into a massive civil war. All hope lies within the ninja clan “Black Lotus” to sabotage and defend against the forces of the villain and his demonic allies. The warlord must be assassinated. Do you have the ninja skills to save medieval Japan from a reign terror?
