Put your friendships to the test as Awkward prepares to release on Xbox One, PS4, Switch and PC

2026's Best Games

You may well have heard of Snap Finger Click as they’ve previously delivered a couple of fun little titles in Act It Out and It’s Quiz Time. Now though the UK indie developers are back as they announce their friendship testing party game – Awkward.

Due to hit Xbox One, PS4 and PC on June 5th 2018, with a Nintendo Switch version launching a bit later on June 19th, Awkward is a game that has been designed to be played between one and six friends. Cooperative or competitive team based action is promised as Awkward’s tricky questions get set to test relationships and disclose the most hidden of secrets.

With more than 5000 question ready to roll, with these created by Danny Gallagher (Quiplash, Fibbage 2) and Joanna Haslam (Buzz!, It’s Quiz Time), you can be sure that Awkward won’t be over in an evening either.

It plays out as a fairly simple proposition… at least on paper, as players get to answer a series of questions about themselves, choosing between two distinct answers. The twist comes when fellow players must guess how the first one responded each time, testing how well they know each other. Guess correctly, and the game recognises this to reward the compatibility.

Snap Finger Click advise you play Awkward at your own risk, because whilst the questioning is simple, everything is peachy, but as the rounds progress, the questions become less trivial and, well, awkward.

To make things even more exciting, streamers can take advantage of Awkward’s built-in compatibility with Mixer, Twitch and YouTube (on all platforms except Switch), hosting the session for – or ‘against’ – up to 500,000 concurrent viewers. There is no need for a companion app either as viewers simply interact via chat to guess the host’s answer. Whether playing locally or streaming online, Awkward will also display how the rest of the world answered each question.

If you’re looking for a new party game and have had enough of It’s Quiz Time, then you’ll find Awkward heading to a console near you real soon. Priced at £9.99 / €12,99 EUR / $11.99 USD, it seems like many of us will be tempted in… whether that is a good thing or not!

We’ll be sure to remind you when it arrives.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
