Any realistic FPS gamer worth their salt would have heard of, and likely dabbled in, Isonzo, the WW1 online FPS from the developers behind Verdun and Tannenberg. This shooter in particular focuses on battles waged by the Italian army, and this is no different with the Grappa expansion.
Releasing today as a free update on Xbox, PlayStation and PC platforms, Isonzo’s Grappa expansion sees the Italians facing off against the Germans, as the latter wages an epic offensive across the mountains and valleys of the Massiccio del Grappa. On the German side, players will first venture through dense forestry, before fighting up Monte Tomba, Castel Cesil, and Monte Palon. Victory will be yours, if you can defeat the Italians atop Cima Della Mandria. If you find yourself repping the red, white and green, then of course you must defend the oncoming Germans to claim that ‘big dub’, as war generals used to say.
In real life, it turns out the Germans were unsuccessful in their attack, despite use of the Dreyse M1908, which players have access to for the first time in this update. Additionally, Italian forces will be kitted out with the Revolver Orbea Hermanos – Tettoni 1916, and Austro-Hungarian soldiers will receive the Gasser M1870, for use in other battles within Isonzo.
For those players who wish to kit their men out in the freshest of war garms, then today also marks the release of the Expedition Units Pack, which grants you access to 12 uniforms, 24 headgear items, 2 facial items, 7 facial hair items, and 3 faces, most of which are centred around dealing with cold mountain combat.
If you are yet to enjoy the brutal combat of Isonzo, then you can pick up a copy on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, or PC. On Xbox, the Xbox Store has copies for £24.99 – but make sure to check out our full review of the game first!
