Among all the releases and things to celebrate today, there’s one that we shouldn’t miss: the seminal puzzler Tetris Effect has made its way to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, and it’s free to play for anyone with Game Pass. Tetris Effect: Connected is out now on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S via Game Pass.
That’s a coup, because Tetris Effect has been levelled up to be a multiplayer behemoth in Tetris Effect: Connected. The original (we say original, but we’re mostly referring to the PSVR insta-classic) had solo modes but not much else, while Connected brings local co-op, local face-offs, and competitive online play. It’s a great moment to launch this game, as so many people will be unwrapping their Xbox Series X|S, and they now have a truly brilliant game to play with each other, for free on Xbox Game Pass.
It’s a stunning game to show off the system, too. This is from the makers of Rez and Infinite and Lumines, so if you’ve played either of those games then you’ve had a sample of what to expect here. This is a mix of throbbing tunes and visual pyrotechnics, and the combined aim is to get you into a zen-like state that takes you to the next level of brick-busting. We’ve got the Tetris theme tune in our head, just writing this.
There’s a lot in this package, including 30+ stages and 10+ modes, and we can’t wait to get online and get beaten by casuals and hardcore alike. Let’s not allow Tetris Effect: Connected to get lost in the Xbox Series X, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla screed – it’s too good for that.
