There will only be a few gamers out there who don’t know about the draw of The Binding of Isaac. The roguelike genre defining title created by Nicalis and Edmund McMillen is a game that must be played over and over again. Or at least it was, until the ultimate edition of it turned up on console – The Binding of Isaac: Repentance.

Having previously released on Steam and the Epic Games Store, The Binding of Isaac: Repentance now makes waves on console, with launch on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. This does however mean that Xbox One players are out of luck, with full Series X|S optimisation in the house.

It’s priced at a cool £49.99 and brings together pretty much everything you could wish for in a The Binding of Isaac package. That means you’re getting the base game and all the content from Rebirth, Afterbirth and Afterbirth+, plus the biggest expansion yet, Repentance.

Repentance will also be the final expansion for the game, and with that in place as well you’re looking at upwards of 500 hours worth of content included. It takes old Isaac down into places he’s never visited previously, all frequented by new enemies and bosses. Thankfully there are also new weapon-combos to make the most of, items to use (more than 130 new ones taking the list to north of 700), and more.

In fact, one look at the numbers on offer with The Binding of Isaac: Repentance is pretty scary. It’s complete with a new pathway, which in turn delivers new chapters, an additional boss and ending, but before you get that far expect to be treated to more than 100 new enemies, 25 new bosses, a couple of additional playable characters, 5 new challenges and more than 5000 (yes, five thousand) room designs.

There’s some big stuff going on here and so whether you’re new to the whole The Binding of Isaac offering, or a grizzled old veteran of the scene still continuing to power through, Repentance will cover your back.

You’ll find it on Xbox Series X|S from the Xbox Store. It’s also on PlayStation, Switch and PC.

Let us know if you pick it up.

Game Description:

Experience the modern classic like it’s never been seen before! THE GAME THAT DEFINED A GENRE When Isaac’s mother starts hearing the voice of God, demanding a sacrifice be made to prove her faith, Isaac escapes into the dark and dangerous basement. There he faces droves of deranged monsters, lost brothers and sisters, his fears, and eventually the creature who gave him life. With new final bosses and animated endings, Repentance delivers the concluding chapter to Isaac’s saga! UNLIMITED REPLAYABILITY The Binding of Isaac: Repentance is a randomly generated action/RPG/shooter with heavy roguelike elements, resulting in many thousands of hours of gameplay.
