Up for some paranormal frights? The dark detective thrills of Hermitage: Strange Case Files are coming to Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC, with a summer 2021 release planned.

Arriving from Giiku Games this summer, Hermitage: Strange Case Files will launch on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC through Steam as players get the chance to snoop around a sinister bookstore, opening up a Pandora’s Box of paranormal goodies as they go.

Having previously found success in the Chinese market, created by the team at Arrowiz, Hermitage: Strange Case Files will now be launching in the west thanks to Giiku Games as they fully localise matters and bring this sinister tale of murder and investigation to an all-new audience.

It’s the bookshop of Hermitage which is the main focal point, but this is no ordinary store. In fact, if customers are purely looking for something to read, they won’t find that here. From Japanese folklore to superstitious tales from Southeast Asia, the books on offer are as colourful as the shop’s clientele. But when one customer comes to the sales desk clutching a book of ancient texts and rituals, Hermitage takes a turn towards the truly dark…

Hermitage: Strange Case Files causes its protagonist to question the lines between fantasy and reality, as players take on the role of the bookshop owner –  a former anthropology professor who has strangely never been seen outside of Hermitage. With the help of a hacker genius who just so happens to be on the run, a self-proclaimed detective and a short-tempered legal consultant, you’ll need to get to the bottom of a series of horrific incidents, taking on the supernatural horrors that lurk between the pages of Hermitage’s weird and wonderful book collection.

“Hermitage: Strange Case Files is what Chinese developer Arrowiz does best: an engaging mystery wrapped up in a multi-layered and immersive story where every line of dialogue is an important cog in the wheel that is the game’s overarching narrative,” says Rinalda Faraian, Product Manager at Giiku Games. “It’s important then that we do the script justice, and we can’t wait to bring this new localised version to gamers on console and PC this summer.”

The key features of Hermitage: Strange Case Files will include:

  • A unique adventure with a multi-layered story and a visual novel style
  • Interviews with characters where choosing the approach that matches their personality serves up important leads
  • Clues discovered through TV news, online forums, phone messages and emails
  • Analyze characters and events using an interactive pinboard
  • Investigate character backstories to discover secrets
  • Match your intel with your suspicions to uncover the truth
  • Take your adventure on a new path by unlocking various storylines with your choices

If you’re ready to try and hone your sharp detective skills or are looking for a dark and mysterious adventure, you could probably do much worse than check out Hermitage: Strange Case Files when it launches on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam this summer.

We will of course shout as soon as a release date is known. For now though, kick back with the trailer. And consider wishlisting on Steam if that is your bag too.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
