Having spent a year in Early Access, honing plans, features and mechanics, it’s now time for Oaken on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC to launch for real. Are you ready for the mythical world it brings?
Releasing today is Oaken on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, all via an Xbox Store download. Alongside that though comes the PlayStation, Switch and PC launch, ditching the Early Access ideas for that of a fully worked game.Â
Head to the Great Oak
Oaken comes about via the Laki Studios, Goblinz Publishing and Red Art Games teams, as a roguelite, deck management affair looks to play out. It focuses on the titular world of Oaken itself; a mythical home that is rarely defined by space or time.Â
It is situated in the Great Oak, as the spirit population abide by that of the Oak Song. But when that voice mutes, it feels like it could well be the end of Oaken.Â
What plays out is a hero-focused campaign that deals with a host of roguelite and deckbuilding elements. With spirits front and centre, it’ll be up to you to head into the randomly generated maps and levels, taking in the tactical battles found within.
Promising to be one of those ‘easy to learn, hard to master’ games, Oaken does at least give you the tools for the job. Expect to discover the opportunity to upgrade spells, work the spirits and dictate how the story unfolds.

We’re mid-review of Oaken on Xbox and will let you know how it plays in the coming days. For now though you can grab a copy of the game for yourself, splashing £16.74 over at the Xbox Store. Oaken is fully optimised for Xbox Series consoles, but can also be played on Xbox One too.Â
Alternatively, you should be seeing this on the digital stores of PlayStation, Switch and PC too. Steam will be your best bet for the latter.Â
Game Description
The world of Oaken is a mythical place, existing in a not-easily-defined space and time. It is stretched among the branches of the Great Oak. Its inhabitants are spirits, who all listen to the same voice called the Oak Song. The loss of that voice starts a series of events leading to a struggle which may either heal or destroy the Great Oak.
