Skull Island: Rise of Kong is coming to Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC

A journey of vengeance, of destruction, of action – Skull Island: Rise of Kong sees the return of King Kong. And it’s set to release on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC soon.

An all-new action adventure starring King Kong, Skull Island: Rise of Kong on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC will be coming your way later this year.

The return of Kong?

It’s based on the history of Kong – as you would expect. In development by creator Joe DeVito, it promises to play out as a third person adventure that lets you become Kong, heading off on a journey of vengeance. Your ultimate goal? To claim your place as King of Skull Island.

It’s been a good few years since we’ve had any King Kong action. In fact, that was probably with Peter Jackson’s King Kong having released on Xbox 360 back in 2005. That went hand-in-hand with the movie of the time, but otherwise we’ve been fairly limited with Kong games. In fact, the Pinball FX DLC of Godzilla vs. Kong Pinball is probably your best bet.

So what can we expect from this new Kong game? Well, it’ll give us the chance to take on an action-packed quest to avenge the death of Kong’s parents at the hands of the ultimate alpha predator: the saurian terror Gaw.

Mostly that will involve the traversing of the mysterious island, uncovering secrets across a variety of treacherous environments, and discovering the power flowing through its exotic flora and fauna.

Of course, this is Kong and so front and centre will be the chance to conquer waves of primal beasts. As will the opportunity to defeat unique bosses, and rise above all who stand in Kong’s way to being King!

Will Skull Island: Rise of Kong be any good?

The key features in all are lengthy, and we’re hoping that Skull Island: Rise of Kong will be good. In summary, it will include:

  • Explore the Origins of the King: Start your journey as the orphaned Kong and experience his evolution to the King of Skull Island as you hunt for revenge against Gaw.
  • Unleash the Fury of Kong: Deal devastating combos to dominate Gaw’s ferocious minions, and unleash your rage to heighten the impact of your attacks. Send even the most gargantuan of enemies fleeing with your earth-shattering roar and brutal finishing attacks.
  • Ascend to New Heights: Gain new abilities through special events and intense boss fights to unlock Kong’s full potential.
  • Discover the Mythos of Skull Island: Explore mountainous terrain, jungles, swamps, skullite-filled caves and more to unearth collectibles, unlock new areas, and learn more about the mysterious history of this faraway land.

Skull Island: Rise of Kong is coming soon

A fully confirmed release date of Skull Island: Rise of Kong is not yet known. But it’s set to launch on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation, Switch and PC in the coming months.

If you’re excited for the release (and you really should be), then grabbing a pre-order may be worth your while. A Standard Edition of the game should set you back £34.99.

There wil also be al Digital Deluxe Edition, ready for pre-order at £44.99 soon. That comes in the form of the Colossal Edition, and includes 8 exclusive film grains featuring the ability to experience a red-tinted rage mode and the original look of the classic 1933 and 1970s era King Kong films. It also houses the Kong color pack with 10 different colors so you can choose-your-own Kong color. Further is a boss-rush mode allowing you to defeat all the titans of Skull Island, and a behind-the-scenes exclusive pack including looks at in-game artwork and the all-original orchestral soundtrack.

So, ready to conquer Skull Island? We’ll be sure to keep you looped with a full release date for Skull Island: Rise of Kong.
