We’ll be honest, we didn’t expect to be found continuing our journey through the Borderlands anytime soon. But when 2K and Gearbox announced that the New Tales from the Borderlands would be arriving, we cleared the decks, readying ourselves to take in the adventures once more. And now it’s time for those adventures to commence.

New Tales from the Borderlands focuses on three (free) things – fame, fortune and frogurt as we get the opportunity to make absolute mayhem once more, as the spiritual successor to the brilliant initial Telltale Games series rolls out

Available right now for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC players to enjoy, New Tales from the Borderlands does pretty much as you would expect, pushing out a choice-driven, narrative adventure to the world.

New Tales from the Borderlands carries forth the same ideas in terms of adventure and storytelling. It throws us into the perpetually war-torn metropolis of Meridian City, as players get to take control of three lovable losers on the worst day of their lives through deep, immersive story scenes, mini-games and free-walk sequences.

If you played the Telltale Games back in the day, then you should know what to expect here – every choice that players make can affect how the story unfolds, often in unexpected ways.

“With concept and writing collaboration between talent who worked on the original Tales from the Borderlands and an all-Gearbox production team driven by the incredible creative leadership of Gearbox Studio Quebec, we’re stoked for everyone to play New Tales from the Borderlands,” said Randy Pitchford, founder of the Gearbox Entertainment Company. “The new storylines and characters will entertain newcomers to the Borderlands universe and those who have played and loved other Borderlands games.”

Available in both a Standard Edition and that of a Deluxe Edition (a copy that includes the previous Tales from the Borderlands), New Tales from the Borderlands key features sit as…

  • THE UNDERDOG STORY OF THREE LOVABLE NOBODIES – Decide the fates of altruistic scientist Anu, her ambitious, “streetwise” brother Octavio, and the fierce, frogurt-slinging Fran. With nothing left to lose and everything to gain, you’ll claw and con your way through this thrilling five-part story full of gun-toting goons, otherworldly beasts, and delicious tacos.
  • AN EXTRAORDINARY CINEMATIC ADVENTURE – The Borderlands aren’t just home to Vault Hunters, psychos, and weapons-corp CEOs—they’re full of downtrodden, intrepid civilians just trying to get by. With a host of returning and fresh faces, including an assassin bot with comedic aspirations and a less-murderous-than-usual bandit, this unforgettable tale is sure to delight fans new and old.
  • YOUR CHOICES SHAPE THE OUTCOME – The decisions you make determine how your story ends. Whether it’s Anu’s vision of a universe that markets more than weapons, Octavio’s dreams of fame and fortune, or Fran’s frosty plot for revenge—their success or failure depends on you.

The usual digital stores will sort you out for a download. The Xbox Store is capable of covering the bases for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S folk, with the Standard Edition running a £34.99 price and the Deluxe Edition coming in at £44.99. You’ll find New Tales from the Borderlands kicking into gear on PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC too.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
