The Nidhogg 2 wurm blasts out of the box with an Xbox One announcement and exclusive levels

2026's Best Games

You may well have played Nidhogg 2 on PS4 or PC, but very soon you’ll be able to also take in the grotesquely captivating slaughter-fest on Xbox One.

The wurm is out of the box and Nidhogg 2 will be coming to Xbox One on July 19th 2018, giving you the chance to prove your worth as you run blindly forward, launching yourself into a gore-filled maw.

But it’s not just a release date we need worry about and Nidhogg 2 will be hitting the very best console in the world with 2 exclusive levels.

Only on Xbox One, you will get to take the fight to Messhof Corporate Headquarters and the Elevated Train as you fill out TPS reports with the fluids of your enemies and inject abject terror into your daily commute. You should really begin to prepare for a simple game of tug-of-war, in which “simple” means “filled with sharp objects intended to puncture your enemies.” That means you’ll be stabbing and impaling anyone that dares stand in your way, all as you seek glorious sacrifice to the wurm at the other end of the screen.

Nidhogg 2 promises to expand on the award-winning gameplay found in the first game by offering up new weapons, new levels, new ways to customize your slaughter. A captivating art style courtesy of Toby Dixon, and sounds by acclaimed electronic artists Mux Mool, Geotic, Doseone, Osborne, and Daedelus, should really just seal the deal.

Game features include:

  • Challenge the AI or a friend in 1v1 combat.
  • Fight for the top seat in 8-player tournaments.
  • Master the distinctive traits of four weapons.
  • Get stylish with full character customization.
  • 12 stages (2 exclusive to Xbox One) from castles to Nidhogg innards.
  • Alter the rules with over 10 different game variables.
  • Go online with matchmaking and private games.

We will remind you when the 19th July rolls around. Or you could just stick the trailer below on repeat for the next few weeks.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
