Are you tired of replaying Castlevania: Symphony of the Night? Need something to remind you of the good old days? The developers at Team Ladybug have you covered, with their latest game – Touhou Luna Nights.
Now available on Xbox One and Game Pass, this action-packed metroidvania is sure to sate your metroidvania appetite.
Based on the Touhou Project series, Touhou Luna Nights is a metroidvania with a big focus on action. The character you control, Sakuya Izaoi, slides and double jumps around every encounter. New abilities that you will unlock along the way allow you to turn every dodge into a prime opportunity for a brutal counterattack. If dodging out of the way does not cut it, Sakuya’s ability to manipulate the flow of time should prove quite useful for freezing enemies in their tracks.
Much like the Touhou series it is based on, Touhou Luna Nights offers plenty of bullet-hell mayhem as well. This is pretty unique for a metroidvania game with traditional side-scrolling gameplay. You will have to take full advantage of Sakuya’s unique moveset and agility in order to dance through a maelstrom of enemy fire.
A bulletstorm may not sound too much like the Castlevania games of old, but the story and visuals on display are right on the money. Sakuya is a maid for the head vampire of the Scarlet Devil Mansion: Remilia Scarlet. After being sent to a different world by Remilia, you must explore the mysterious new realm and find out what her true goal is. On your quest, you can expect to see plenty of gorgeous scenes rendered in brilliant pixelwork. The enemy sprites and gothic environments look top-notch and definitely scratch that nostalgic itch.
