Over the course of the past year we’ve become accustomed to games missing their release windows, delayed for one reason or another. And honestly, it’s a whole load better than launching with a half baked product that leaves development teams open for criticism. One of the smaller games that was originally due to drop on console in 2020 was that of Chromatic Games’ Dungeon Defenders: Awakened. But very soon it’ll be with us as the full Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S release date has now been set in stone.
Already available on Steam and coming to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch further down the line, it’s time for the Xbox green to shine bright on Dungeon Defenders: Awakened with the cooperative tower defense action RPG series continuing on at full pace.
Originally destined to drop in Q2 2020, we’ll now be seeing the game hit Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S come March 17th 2021, complete as a base game that will include all the content that is currently available in the PC version. And yep, this will include the customisation-centric Transmog system, the challenging Rifted Mode and more.
Dungeon Defenders: Awakened will see you returning to Etheria as darkness falls on some new locales. From there you’ll be left to fight back against your foes, repelling their advances by creating some of the most interesting of defensive blockades. By placing towers and more you’ll be able to dish out the destruction to waves of trolls, goblins and more, happily diving in to the battlefield as you see fit with your own heroic Defenders.
There will be five of these guys on tap, each of whom will come with differing skills and abilities, letting you make the most of their power, their gear and their expertise in your quest ahead.
Awakened will let you play alone, or through online co-op for up to four players, taking in the Campaign and nailing big bosses as one. In order to become a true Etherian hero though you’ll need to use your skills across all manner of opportunities with Defenders tested in multiple game types.
You’ll be able to use your building skills in the Pure Strategy Mode, or mix things up with the Mix Mode. Throw in Rifted maps and everything else that comes with the 1.2 version that is available on PC through Steam and you can easily see how the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S versions of Dungeon Defenders: Awakened will play out. And yep, if you’re looking for the Transmog system, letting you customise things to your heart’s content, that will be in place too.
“Dungeon Defenders: Awakened has always been about celebrating the franchise and the players that have supported it since the first game launched ten years ago,” said Augi Lye, CEO, Chromatic Games. “With the launch of Dungeon Defenders: Awakened on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One on March 17, we can’t wait for console players to return to Etheria and find more of the Dungeon Defenders magic they’ve grown to love.”
We’ll be sure to remind you when that March 17th 2021 release of Dungeon Defenders: Awakened rolls out on to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. For now though you’d do well to check out the latest trailer.
Now we just need Grim Dawn and a few others to get off the uncertainty train.
