Xbox’s biggest ever content drop arrives in the form of Antstream Arcade

A host of games arrive on Xbox via Anstream Arcade

As the discourse around video game preservation rages on, a little studio has been fighting the good fight for years with Antstream. Available already on mobile devices – and previously as an Xbox app – the jump has now been made into a full Xbox title. And with over 1300 games to choose from, it has been described as the biggest content drop in history. Antstream Arcade is out now on Xbox.

Retro rolling?

Those with a penchant for retro games will have probably already heard of Antstream, but for the uninformed, listen up. Antstream is an online retro gaming repository of over 1300 games with titles ranging from the days of the C64 and the ZX Spectrum up to the original PlayStation. That the original PlayStation is now considered retro is scary, but I am glad it is included.

But Anstream Arcade isn’t just content with you playing these games. It has implemented a wide range of more modern features for many of the title. Online leaderboards, weekly tournaments, save states, community challenges and more are all here for you to join in with. Fancy showing off a highscore in one of your favourite retro games? Send it to a friend as a duel to see if they can beat it.

And if a game previously had local co-op mode, you can bet it is included here also.

Included in Antstream Arcade on Xbox

  • Over 600 original mini-game challenges, with new challenges every month. Take on your friends or the global leaderboards, or just try to earn gold in your favorite games.
  • Participate in global weekly tournaments. Take on the world and show everyone your elite gaming skills.
  • Set a community challenge with Giant Slayer. Take on the global community of retro gamers by setting a high score and challenging them to beat it. Will the community slay your score or will you be a giant amongst them?
  • Pick up that second controller and enjoy some classic couch co-op action with some of the best Beat’em ups, Shmups, Fighters, Platformers, and more at your fingertips.
  • Save your game at any point and pick up where you left off. Multiple people playing the same game? No problem, you have 4 save slots on every game to play with and a continue to pick up wherever you left off.
  • Leave your mark by immortalizing yourself in the high score table of any game or challenge.
  • Challenge a friend in Duel. Play any challenge and see if they can beat you.

Play Antstream Arcade now!

With more games being added every month, there really is no shortage of games to play here. Maybe you could return to your old favourite from yesteryear, or even better, even find a new favourite. A full list of games can be found on the Antstream website.

Antstream Arcade is on the Xbox Store now, with the base game priced at £29.99. This will grant you a one year subscription to the service. If you are already fully invested, there is also a Lifetime Pass available, which will cost £79.99.

And if you need some further guidance as to which version to pick up, you’ll be pleased to know our review is coming very soon. Stay tuned.
