Antstream – now on Xbox!

It was back in 2019 when we first heard of Antstream, as it looked to utilise Kickstarter funding in order to become a retro gamer’s dream. Now, some four years on, Antstream is finally coming to Xbox.

You may have heard of Antstream. If not thanks to the Kickstarter funding round that took place all those years back, then because you have seen it in action on PC. A retro gaming platform that is complete with hundreds, thousands, of iconic games from the past, if you’ve any love for going back, Antstream is allowing for it.

Antstream on Xbox

Today, Antstream Arcade is fully confirmed for Xbox. And that sees it bringing its third party cloud gaming ideas from PC, Mac, Android and more to the console landscape. That’s for the very first time. And it all sounds like it will fit in to the Xbox ecosystem perfectly.

If you are unaware of Anstream, then let us fill you in. Antstream Arcade Ltd is the world’s largest collection of officially licensed retro games. And it is bringing that collection to Xbox, with some 1300 classics in tow.

Expect to find Space Invaders, Bubble Bobble and Metal Slug featuring, with many old PlayStation and Nintendo titles officially playable on Xbox for the first time. And when we say Antstream is coming to Xbox soon, we mean it – pre-orders kick off from today, before the Xbox Store sees an imminent release on July 21st.

The extensive Antstream catalogue ranges from early Atari releases through Commodore, Sega, Nintendo and original PlayStation era games. All of these will be instantly available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, forgoing the ned for any installation, download or setup. You can be sure that each will work perfectly too, optimised through a rigorous quality control process to ensure the gameplay is as the developer intended.

Classic Games on Cloud Gaming

Antstream Arcade supports instant cloud game saves and online high scores. It also comes with resume play features across multiple devices, with the library of games being built on consistently.

But there’s more and Antstream Arcade also brings a revolutionary way of playing retro games. It makes the most of some unique technology that mods the originals to create new mini-game challenges. As you would suspect, this adds fresh vibes for both veteran and first-time players. For instance, you’ll get to play as Pac-Man and avoid collecting the dots. Or you will find Pac-Man does the chasing and Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Clyde are on the run!

Not only can you enjoy classic gaming via Antstream but you’ll also find you can enter tournaments. And further is the chance to challenge others to high-score duels and create giant slayer community battles. Or you can just focus on nailing the best scores on earth. Additionally, win gems, rack up achievements, connect with others and build a profile to show off gaming prowess.

Finally, you can play Antstream on Xbox

Steve Cottam, CEO Antstream grew up with Manic Miner as one of his favourite games; “Despite living in an age of incredible technology, I found it wasn’t easy enough to access the games I loved growing up and I wanted to be able to easily share scores and compete against friends” he said “We believe in the preservation and accessibility of all games, the great, the impossible and the forgotten or lesser known too, I’m very proud to bring the Antstream Arcade platform to the Xbox community”.

Antstream Arcade is already available on PC (Epic Game Store for instance), Mac, Linux, Android, Android TV, Firestick, Samsung TV and via browsers (beta). But it’s now time for Xbox to step up to the plate as the first major console to support the Arcade natively.

You can get pre-ordering and can discover more information about Anstream Arcade on Xbox right here. Antstream Arcade on Xbox is £/$/€29.99 annually or £/$/€79.99 for lifetime access. All future games and features will be included as it looks to roll to Europe, UK, USA, Canada, and the Vatican City.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
