Sephonie is on Xbox, PlayStation and Switch

We mostly associate Ratalaika Games with cheap additions to the gaming world; experiences that are usually over in a night or two. Sephonie looks to be different as it lets us go parkouring through a world of mystery. And if we take the price point as the focus, this one may well bring a good few hours of rich content too.

A new Ratalaika Games focus?

Sephonie on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch is available now. It’s priced at £19.99, which in itself is pretty hefty for a Ratalaika Games title. Put together by those at Analgesic Productions, if you’re interested in a new parkour-focused game, this could well be worth a look.

Taking cues from the likes of Mirror’s Edge, Sephonie is a puzzle platformer that focuses most efforts on parkouring. And as you may expect, that means you’ll be found dashing and wallrunning like your life depends on it. Probably because your life DOES depend on it.

Sephonie places three biologists at the heart of the action, as they look to partake in a bit of research. It’s the creatures of Sephonie Island which are their main focus, as they attempt to learn more about these weird creatures. But when a storm hits…

Shipwrecked and alone, it’ll be up to you to help these biologists navigate the island. There’s obviously going to be some serious physical effort required there, but this is a strange place and manifestations of hopes and dreams continually arise.

Can you discover the secrets behind Sephonie Island?

A host of key features await should you wish to navigate these lands. In fact – as mentioned – this is a hefty experience that sees the Ratalaika Games team go to all-new levels.

  • Master parkour-esque moves to sprint, jump, wall run and fling yourself through massive caverns!
  • A beautiful and varied cave system filled with all manner of large and surprising creatures.
  • In the casual “Puzzle Grid” minigame, combine multicolored puzzle pieces to link with creatures, from adorable mammals to gigantic whales! * A deep, emotional story about the close bonds of a trio, the priorities of nations, and the delicate connection between humans and nature.
  • The postgame “Bubble Adventure” and fiendishly hidden items provide a fun challenge for advanced spelunkers.
  • A human experience crafted entirely by the IGF Grand Prize-nominated duo of Marina Kittaka and Melos Han-Tani, behind works such as Anodyne 1 & 2, Even the Ocean, and All Our Asias.

Game Description

In this 3D puzzle-platformer, parkour through an island’s mysterious caverns! Dash and wallrun through lush caves, subterranean oceans, and surreal cityscapes.

Discover new abilities to navigate rocky levels, or use creatures like the long-tongued Ribbat to grapple through the air!

Three biologists are on a mission to research uninhabited Sephonie Island’s creatures. But as they approach the island, a sudden storm leaves them shipwrecked.

They will find their motivations and loyalties put to the test as they navigate the caverns, facing not only physical challenges but also manifestations of their deepest memories and dreams.

As they grow more intimate with each other and the island, an ancient force, brewing deep in the island’s abyss, may threaten their newfound relationship, and the world…
