Gamescom – and all the major gaming expos – are high time for acquisitions within the industry. And as Germany’s biggest gaming exhibition continues, it is the turn of Montreal’s Behaviour Interactive to announce some exciting news. The Canadian outfit have acquired indie developers Codeglue; their first presence in continental Europe.
Dutch Origins
Set up by high-school buddies Maurice Sibrandi and Peter de Jong, the Rotterdam-based Codeglue has grown into a home for 30 staff. Awarded Best Studio at the Dutch Game Awards in 2022, the studio is known for a variety of indie games, such as XBLA title Rocket Riot (a personal fav!), and had a hand in the development of Human Fall Flat.
Peter de Jong, now acting as Behaviour Rotterdam’s general manager, had this to say on the move:
Codeglue and Behaviour have much in common, having experienced the gaming industry’s many evolutions over the past 23 years… Over that time, we have always admired Behaviour’s work and culture. We are thrilled to be the newest chapter in their success story.
Continental Expansion
The acquisition of Codeglue is the third for Behaviour Interactive in Europe. They have set up two studios in the UK, prior to the move. Behaviour UK – North was established in February 2023, whilst Behaviour UK – South was set up in July 2023. They primarily comprises former SockMonkey Studios and Antimatter Games employees respectively.
Rémi Racine – Behaviour’s co-founder, executive producer and CEO, is thoroughly excited by working with Codeglue:
We are very pleased to build upon our strategic expansion into the UK by establishing our first presence in continental Europe… The addition of Codeglue’s experienced team further enhances the capabilities of our world-class Services division. We are always eager to pursue opportunities that align with Behaviour’s needs and culture, and Codeglue represented a clear match on both these fronts.
A New Frontier for Behaviour Interactive and Codeglue
It’s safe to say that Behaviour Interactive’s strong push into Europe marks a new era for the studio. We can’t wait to see what comes out under their banner with so much development talent in place.
