Coffee Crisis is probably one of the wackiest games out there – and it’s out now on Xbox One

-

According to the heroes of Coffee Crisis there are four precious commodities on planet Earth: Wi-Fi, coffee, metal music and cat videos. And the aliens have invaded in a bid to steal them all!

This will not stand in the eyes of Black Forge Coffeehouse baristas Ashley and Nick – the gladiatorial heroes of Coffee Crisis – and now they must join forces in order to fend off the Smurgilan race. In order to send them back to where they came, a little bit of street brawling à la Streets of Rage wouldn’t go amiss. You, either playing as Nick or Ashley, and a co-op friend if you wish, will be fighting in a number of pixelated 2D levels against all manner of wacky alien species as well as the alien-controlled elderly, bros, cowgirls and western singers all in a bid to save the world from this inhumane theft of what is really important in the world!

An array of melee objects, fighting moves and power-ups will be found throughout the game to beef up the damage you inflict on your foes, and these will come together to form an extremely satisfying retro combat system – if you like your fighters with heaps of gaming nostalgia, Coffee Crisis will be for you. However to ensure the gameplay stays fresh, random modifiers, bonus mini-games and destructible environments are also found within.

“Is there somebody on Earth who wouldn’t love to smash a greedy alien face while listening to heavy metal?”, asks Zack Manko, Lead Cat at Mega Cat Studios. “Bringing Coffee Crisis to Xbox One is a goal we are very proud of achieving”.

Features include:

  • Ten Levels of Smurglian Smashing Goodness
  • Gorgeous hand-drawn sprites and environments
  • Local co-op to fight aliens with friends
  • Twitch & Mixer Integration

If you think of yourself as something of a fighting master you may want to check out the Death Metal Mode, where the difficulty is ramped up and the men are separated from the boys!

Should you be up for helping Nick and Ashley out, then you can do so by picking up Coffee Crisis on Xbox One for $10.99. Keep in mind the game can also be played on PC, SEGA Genesis (cartridge) and Mac. Should it ever arrive on UK shores, we’ll be sure to let you know.

What are you waiting for? The coffee must be saved!

Game Description:

Coffee Crisis is an arcade-style beat ’em up that pays homage to the 90’s era of classic arcade and 16-bit brawlers. The Smurglian race has come to Earth and they’re not leaving until they steal our four most prized commodities: our metal music, the best coffee, cat videos, and all of the WiFi. Challenge them through unique and innovative levels inspired by real-life areas. Originally released on a retro platform (the Sega Genesis) that needs new games like Earthlings need WiFi, you can now take the fight to your PC and XBox One. Join Black Forge Coffeehouse baristas Nick and Ashley, two galaxy gladiators called to arms to stop this madness and remove the Smurglian threat from Earth. The Smurglians can have all of the Rap Metal and Country Pop that they want… but if you don’t help our heroes fend off against the alien-assimilated elderly, bros, cowgirls, and meat head bouncers, they might end up going after good music! This game features: – Single or Local Co-Op Play – XBox Live Achievements – Heavy Metal – Possessed Grannies – Dangerous amounts of caffeine So grab a hot mug and save the world!

I'm an avid gamer who will play pretty much anything... but stick an open world or adventure game in front of me and I'm more than happy.
