Shed some tears – 6 games are leaving Game Pass today

It’s been a good few days for Game Pass subscribers, taking in a number of new additions. But today it’s all about those leaving the service, as 6 games move out. What are the games leaving Game Pass in June?

Games leaving Game Pass in June

We’re well used to the Game Pass service switching things up, but that’s not to say the removal of some of our favourite games is an easy take. But we’re at the month’s end, and that means Microsoft look to make space for the new additions to come.

Leaving Game Pass on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC today are no less than 6 games, with a number of those being titles you really should play. Of course, you still can play them – it’s just you’ll need to stump up some cash to do so.

So what is shifting out? Well, the 6 games leaving Game Pass in June (30th) are…

Road 96

Road 96 is going to be a big miss. A game that we adored upon first release in 2022, we slapped a 4/5 review score on it. Much of that was gained through the narrative, one that allowed the player to escape in more ways than one. It’s a game we walked away from, regretting nothing. “At a time when refugees and authoritarian regimes are very much in the headlines, Road 96 may feel a bit toothless. But ignore the politics and you have a story-rich journey into the desert that will give you an opportunity to escape, in more ways than one.

The real shame is that Road 96: Mile 0 couldn’t replicate the joy that the original game delivered.

DJMAX RESPECT V

We’re also going to lament that of DJMAX RESPECT V. A completely different game to the narrative adventures above, this is all about the tunes; the chance to become one with the rhythm.

With a Guitar Hero-like presentation, full of gloss and features, it may not have hit home as hard as the better MUSYNX, but it still came to market with some decent songs.

Our 3.5/5 scored review of DJ MAX RESPECT V concluded with a blow-by-blow account. “We reach the final whistle, and MUSYNX has it. A win at a canter. While DJMAX RESPECT V is glossy and fully featured, it doesn’t have it where it counts: in its playlist of songs, and how well those songs are mapped to the beats. It’s not a duffer by any means – it’s still capable of blowing your socks off with a banger – but, in times when MUSYNX is also available, it can’t help but feel like the supporting act.

Matchpoint – Tennis Championships and Empire of Sin

Taking a look at the other games leaving Game Pass today, and we’ll pass on Matchpoint – Tennis Championships, if only as with Wimbledon upcoming, removing it from the service feels like nothing more than a cash-grab opportunity. It’s not a particularly great tennis title either. Empire of Sin falls short in quality stakes too.

But two games that don’t miss a beat are also leaving Game Pass today – Olija and Omori.

Olija

We gave Olija a 4.5/5 score upon review back in 2021, talking about how it is to be savoured. Rich and expertly crafted, we were wowed by what it brought to the table.

In fact, that review was summed up by one line; a line that means you should be playing Olija, Game Pass or not… “Relish the experience while it’s there, as Olija is an astonishing adventure game that you can lose yourself in utterly.

Omori

And then we get to Omori – let’s not beat around the bush, a 5/5 score means this is a must-player.

It released on Xbox about a year ago and so you really should have found the time to play this one by now. If not, this is a sketchbook-styled horror affair that will have you thinking about it long after completion. Pretty much everything about it is as close to perfect as you will get.

Just listen to the final words of our review and shed tears over the removal of Omori from Game Pass. “Should you be on the fence about horror, just give it a try and see if you can power through. It’s worth it, I promise.

New games are being added to Game Pass

And so there we have it – 6 games are leaving Game Pass, and a good few of them will be sorely missed.

Of course, the Xbox Store will have pages available for each of the games. If you have missed on the chance of some playtime, open that wallet and grab those you are interested in. We urge you to get playing Olija and Omori asap.

But don’t let those tears of removal cloud your Game Pass judgement. There are games being added to the service again very soon. Confirmed so far are Arcade Paradise for the 3rd of July and Sword and Fairy: Together Forever for the 5th. We’re expecting many more to pop up after that.

As always, get down into the comments and let us know what you’ll miss from those games leaving Game Pass today.
