AK-xolotl on Xbox – cute, but deadly

Every now and then we get eyes on a game and are instantly taken. That was the case when we first heard of AK-xolotl from 2Awesome Studio. Today, the cutest, most deadly of roguelikes launches on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC.

It was back in 2020 when we first heard of AK-xolotl. The plan at the time was to launch in 2021. Obviously that never happened, but that didn’t mean we had forgotten about the little guy. In fact, the time that has passed just makes us even more excited to get hands-on.

AK-xolotl is finally here

Available today on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC (via that Steam), AK-xolotl is a unique top-down roguelike shooter. It’s unique in the fact that this is the only game you can play that stars an AK-wielding Axolotl. Sold yet?

In AK-xolotl it’ll be your one and only task to shoot your way through the animal kingdom. You’ll do so with a ton of guns to hand and some power-ups to play around with. You’ll also get the chance to raise a cute little army of baby axolotls; each one as manic and trigger happy as the next.

A variety of different lands await in AK-xolotl, with randomly generated rooms concluding in a big old boss. You’ll only get to defeat these guys by making the most of the mechanics to hand though, improving stats, utilising recipes and more. You’ll soon find yourself as a lean little axolotl machine.

Buy it now!

We’re hugely excited to finally see AK-xolotl release on Xbox. If you agree, head to the Xbox Store today and grab a download. You’ll be able to play AK-xolotl on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, fully optimised too. £15.74 is going to feel a bargain.

You should also find AK-xolotl on PlayStation, Switch and PC.

We’ll look to follow with review.

Game Description

The cutest, deadliest and ONLY top-down roguelike shooter featuring AK-wielding Axolotls. Blast your way through the animal kingdom with an arsenal of kick-ass guns, mighty power-ups and even raise an army of trigger-happy baby axolotls.

While cute in appearance, the Axolotl is packing some serious heat and will shoot down anything that stands between them and their next meal. Blast a path through a variety of biomes and conquer randomly generated rooms with a dastardly boss at the end of every biome.

Find Axolotl eggs and raise new powerful Axolittles by turning them into highly specialised little killing machines. Take their firepower to the next level by cooking up permanent, stat-improving recipes. Turn your enemies into ingredients, eat everything and become unstoppable.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
