2026's Best Games

Caveman Ransom is available on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch

We’re pretty sure we played Caveman Ransom (or something very similar) back in the mid-1980s, in the sticky, sweaty arcades of the time. It’ll probably be a much nicer experience to take it in again from the comfort of our sofa, as it launches on Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. Really though, we just want to be shouting Captain Caaaaaavemaaaaan…

A caveman tale

Available right now as the latest from Ratalaika Games and SEEP is Caveman Ransom; a simple, humble little platformer that looks to have been inspired by games of the past. It’s present on digital stores of Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, with a ÂŁ4.99 asking price making it a cheap enough proposition.

Caveman Ransom looks to be a joy. Especially if your idea of joy is a little bottom-bouncing platformer in which you get the throw bones and spears at enemies. It places us in the shoes of Ooga; a bearded caveman looking for the easy life. Unfortunately, that life gets a bit tricky when his grandfather, Booga, is taken away by some evil bandits.

It’s there where the adventure takes place, as Ooga jumps, dodges and climbs his way to a grandparenting rescue. With coins to collect, bosses to battle and more, Caveman Ransom looks set to provide a neat like adventure through lost times.

Features include

  • 16-bit style platformer
  • 50 levels
  • 5 bosses
  • Multiple weapons and items

You’ll find Caveman Ransom on the Xbox Store. From there it’s playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. It’s also on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch if you so should prefer.

Stay tuned for our review. We’ll let you know how this journey plays out. We bet Caveman Ransom is full of easy Gamerscore and achievements too. For now, excuse us as we go Googling the name of that arcade game of the ’80s… If anyone can tell us, the comments are below.

Caveman Ransom Description

Ooga is a friendly bearded caveman living his peaceful life during the stone age. Until one day, his beloved grandfather, Booga, is abducted for ransom by a gang of bandits.

Our hero must defeat the evil bandit cavemen and free his beloved grandfather. Jump, dodge traps, and climb ladders. Crush dinosaurs with jumps and obtain primitive projectile weapons. Battle challenging bandit bosses. Collect coins to spend in the shop and level up.

The charming nostalgia of Caveman Ransom is enough to fondly take you back in time to long-lost era of gaming.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
