We have one member of TheXboxHub team who simply cannot get enough of fishing. Whether it’s a Fishing Adventure or Bassmaster Fishing to be had, he’s game. But we wonder if he is equally a fan of en masse crabbing? Well, we can all find out today, as Deadliest Catch: The Game on Xbox and Switch hits the shelves. And yeah, we’re giving this one to him for review, even if he doesn’t want to catch crabs.
Ready the Cages
Releasing on Xbox and Nintendo Switch, following a 2020 PC debut to mixed reception, Deadliest Catch: The Game is inspired by the TV programme of the same name. It’s this which sees crab fisherman traverse the oceans in pursuit of as many of the nippy creatures as they can get their hands on.
The game, therefore, will see you jump into the shoes of a crabber, and go about the chores of the job. Expect to be confronted with a multitude of tasks, such as sorting out the coiler, retrieving the cage, and everything in between in order to fulfil your quota.
However, you’ll also be involved in the logistical side of things. You’ll need to take into account regulations on fishing quotas, crab migration patterns, and the movements of the unforgiving sea. With a diverse set of locations to travel to, each will come with its own unique challenges.
Remember, not every crab you catch can be sold for a tidy profit. Alaskan law dictates that only crabs of a certain sex and size can be sold on, so you’ll have to sort out the sellable large males from the protected females and babies. Nobody wants a baby crab for dinner – they want some hearty meat! Unless you’re playing DREDGE, in which case pretty much anything goes.
