With Episode 3 in the Life is Strange 2 saga ending on such an exciting cliffhanger it was always going to be interesting to see what happens to the Diaz brothers in this next, and penultimate episode; would the story continue on such an interesting trajectory or dip again into the lows of previous episodes?
Ellen, the latest title from Red Mount Media, is a strange mix of components seemingly thrown together in some kind of twisted video game blender. It's a 2D pixel sidescroller. It's also a murder mystery. And it's also a somewhat unsettling paranormal horror game. The result? Ellen works more often than it doesn't, despite some problems.
EA Sports make it their mission to release a new instalment of their hugely popular FIFA series each and every year, promising all manner of gameplay improvements, and occasionally, new modes. Football is football though, and as such, you can’t re-invent the wheel; what you can do is ensure it’s the very best version of said wheel. With FIFA 20 now here, does it manage to deliver a better experience than ever before, or is it really just an expensive way to get up-to-date squads?
The Sims 4 Get Famous DLC on Xbox One appears to have seemingly added more of the same as with previous expansions, such as a new location, new customisation options and new careers, and not much else, however the inclusion of this Fame system offers a new target to aim for.
A Winter's Daydream on Xbox One is cheap, which helps in its extremely short length, but I fear that this low price point won't cover the expensive mistake that this ‘game’ makes. That is, forgetting to become a game at all.
As with the titular nature of the game, Scheming Through The Zombie Apocalypse: The Beginning works as the first in a series of stories following an idiot dog and grumpy rabbit, finishing at a point that feels like a chapter ending rather than a story finishing.
Some will find the prospect of sitting around and chatting too dull to warrant a purchase, and others might discover that after one playthrough, they’ll not want to play it anymore, but unfortunately for them, I think they’d be missing out on some brilliant possibilities and many "sliding doors" moments.
Having escaped from a mental hospital in the point-and-click adventure Edna & Harvey: The Breakout back in 2008, the titular characters returned for a sequel in 2012's Edna & Harvey: Harvey’s New Eyes. Now, some seven years later, the developers at Daedalic Entertainment have decided to bring one of these games to the console market. For whatever reason, they chose the sequel, but is Edna & Harvey: Harvey’s New Eyes able to survive and thrive on its own, or is it lost without the original game to lay down the necessary foundations?
Code Vein is a great new addition to the action RPG genre. It may be nothing more than a reskinned Dark Souls, but when the source material is so strong, that isn't a problem.
Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair really feels like a game designed for all ages. Veteran players will appreciate the standard difficulty of the game, whilst younger ones may benefit from a few Tonics to help them on their way.
Restless Hero on Xbox One is a strong outing; a remarkable effort by a tiny development team. There are improvements that could be made, but they do not detract from the fact that the game is a really enjoyable 2D platforming adventure.
If you’re a fan of the original outing in The Surge universe and have been craving more of that futuristic Dark Souls feel, then The Surge 2 isn’t a bad way to get your fill.
