The early days of the COVID lockdowns can pretty much be summed up through three things: Tiger King, daily walks, and Warzone! Call of Duty’s second attempt at a battle royale (following Black Ops 4’s Blackout mode) took the gaming world by storm, and millions stayed up into the wee hours of the morning going for just one more victory. Now Warzone is back with its own second iteration – Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0.
Releasing as a free update to the already free-to-play Warzone, 2.0 is bringing a suite of new features to coincide with the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.
Perhaps the most exciting new addition to this battle royale – in which you deploy onto an open world map and must be the last ones standing, as a ring pushes you ever-closer – is the introduction of the Al Mazrah map, which is as dusty and dilapidated as you would expect a Modern Warfare map to be! Whilst it has wide open desert areas, the urban cities will also play host to some intense close-quarters combat with your opponents.
To go alongside Al Mazrah is an equally sandy new iteration of the Gulag. For those unaware, death in Warzone is not the end, as it takes you to the Gulag. Facing off 1v1 against a fellow downed player, the winner will get to redeploy into the map, and help their team out once again.
As is the case whenever any battle royale receives a major update, expect to see all-new vehicles enter the fray, allowing you and your squad to navigate the map with ease, with only RPGs to look out for!
The Victus XMR sniper has been added in to bolster the weapons armoury in the long-range department, and on the other side of things we have the newly introduced Bas-P SMG.
Finally, all the hallmarks of a battle royale are here too – expect to be levelling up a battle pass, a host of ways to take out your foes, and now you can live life with the option of a third person view, PUBG style.
